Product Review: Homedics Therapist Select - not sure if worth money

I got this for my husband who absolutely loves to have his back rubbed however he found this massaging cushion hard on the back and really didn't enjoy it, even after many attempts. It was difficult to get into a comfortable position - the cushion pushes you to the front of chair and you can't really relax against it. I gave this pad just 4 stars because although it does it's job very well, it is quite rough on the back. I had to put numerous blankets for padding to cover the rollers and shiatsu as it really hurt my back. Also, it would be nice if it came up the back a little higher. I know of 3 other persons, one a large man, that could not use this pad and returned it to place of purchase. I am keeping mine though will use it very carefully. I really love this cushion. I was really looking forward to trying it out, and wasted no time in unpacking the cushion the moment it came. Luckily, it's pretty much ready to go right out of the box. You just take out the little screw in the back that keeps everything in place during shipping (they even include the allen wrench you need in the box, no searching for tools!), plug it in, and you're ready to go. I played around with the demo first to get an idea of what it could do. I find that the rollers are best for most of the time. The Shiatsu setting is a little intense for my taste, but it's nice when I have a particularly sore spot and need to work it out. The heat is my favorite feature. It heats up very quickly (under a minute) and stays at a very comfortable temperature while working.
As other reviewers have stated, it could stand to be a bit taller, reaching up to the shoulders. That being said, I'm almost 5'9" and found it came pretty close to going as high as I'd like it too. Much better than the vibrating cushion I had a few years ago. The rollers are also a little powerful for everyday use. The instructions suggest you pad it with a towel, which works, but it's annoying. A little more padding between the rollers and your back would be nice (it's just a mesh panel there now).
Overall, I think this cushion is an excellent investment. I use it at least a couple times a week.

I bought this product for my husband for Christmas and he absolutely loves it. I was weary at first about the reviews that said the product hurts, but overall I saw that most people raved about it. The only thing he said was that he wishes it reached a little higher in the back but he uses it like every night.
