These feel very soft, but the battery pack is at the back of the ankle and that is also where the massager is. The bottom is very lightly padded. All the massaging comes from the back of the ankle where the "vibrator" is located. It sort of makes your whole foot tingle a bit, but not what I consider a "massage". The vibration is too concentrated on the part of your foot (ankle) that is probably the least likely to be sore.They were for my mom, I returned them.
