I just purchased a 2nd unit for my son's room after their other Homedics model died after 11 years...
I bought one a year ago for my newborns room - it does its job. Not at all like their previous models. I hear the looping at times, but that could just be me... Also - It doesnt get as loud as their previous model did. Works great so far - its been a year so just had delivered my 2nd one... my boys are too thrilled but it does its job and great for travel since it can use either batteries or adapter. Which not a lot of other brands offer. AND you can run this one continuously not on a timer. LOVE that feature!!!!

I actually got online tonight to read sound machine reviews, as I wondered if there was something out there that was better than our little HoMedics SS-2000. After looking around for quite a little while, I think I'll gratefully stick with the one we have!
We purchased this machine when our now-three-year-old was an infant. She has graduated to listening to stories on CD while falling asleep, just in time for me to commandeer the machine to drown out household noises as I try to grab a nap or an early bedtime, as baby #5 is on the way. I look forward to many nights of restful sleep with our new little one and this wonderful machine.
We use the machine on "Rain" or "Waterfall". I prefer "Waterfall" as it is the most like my beloved, departed metal box fan (snif). With this machine on my night stand, I can sleep through the other noises in our home. I use the 60 minute timer, and I always fall asleep well before it turns off. I am very happy with this purchase and feel that we've already had much more than our money's worth from it.

THE SOUNDS ARE MORE NOISY THEN SOOTHING. I BOUGHT THE SOUND MACHINE BECAUSE I DIDN'T WANT TO WEAR THE MOTOR ON MY DESKTOP FAN OUT, WHICH HAD MORE OF A RELAXING SOUND THEN ANY OF THE 6 ON THIS DEAL. I COULDN'T GIVE IT A ZERO BECAUSE I THOUGHT THE SIZE AND PORTABILITY WAS AWESOME, BUT THE SOUNDS ARE TOO GENERIC AND ANNOYING.Product Review: A boon for insomniacs!

I have difficulty falling asleep. This sound machine forces me to concentrate on the shushing and monotonous noise of the waterfall instead of my thoughts and, inevitably, I fall asleep! Lately, my sound machine has proven to be a life saver, literally. I sleep with my windows open. Alas, a mockingbird has adopted one of our trees and he/it sleeps only until 1:30 AM, after which he begins his interminably varied nocturnal chants! The bird, I am told, marks his territory by imitating the chant of other birds. Even though his memory is quite remarkable, when I hear him in the wee hours of the morning, I have thoughts only for a BB gun. My daughter suggested I purchase a HoMedics sound machine instead of disposing of the bird. Done! I set my sound machine volume just high enough to drown out the birdie's unwelcome ditties and sleep soundly till morning. :-) P.S. It also prevents my grand children from waking up too early when they visit!Product Review: A fine little machine

A fine little machine. Does what it says it should do and does it well. There are a variety of quality sounds all relaxing. The heartbeat sound is a bit creepy, but for some that may be ok. The sounds of the ocean are our favorite, though you do hear seagulls in the background. The sound quality is excellent and fills a room nicely. The addition of the timer or unlimited play is helpful. A good little machine.
