Product Reviews of HoMedics BRF-1 Massaging Back Rest with Cup Holder and Integrated HeadrestProduct Review: Not Perfect But Worth The Money Summary: 4 Stars
The only drawback on this is the arms are too short. You have to actually reach backward to put a drink in the drink holder. Otherwise, a good buy. I place mine next to the hearth in the living room so I can watch ball games in front of the fire. It is perfect for that.
Product Review: Not if you are looking for a massage. Summary: 2 Stars
This chair is okay for leaning against in bed, but even then I needed a pillow behind me. The hard metal vibrator just under the thin material stuck right in the middle of my back. It hurt me the first time I leaned back because I wasn't expecting something hard. This back rest has a very small vibrating mechanism in it that doesn't really travel the whole back.
The height was okay for me since I am only 5'3.
There is no way to control the intesity of the vibration. It is either on or off.
I took mine back the next day. The metal object in the backrest definately did not sooth my aching back.
Product Review: Second Review: After using for three years Summary: 5 Stars
When I initially wrote my first review, it was luke warm. Three years later, I will reverse my first impression and say that I love this back rest.
I think my first review was colored by my 'expectation' of the old style, bulky back rest. This new one seemed small, even lean by comparison.
It may be lean, but it is far from wimpy.
Three years later, some of us are slow learners, I became accustomed to it's narrower width, and simply love it. It has held up well and held its form as if it were still brand new. The back massager is a bonus, and I've learned what kind of tea cup works well in the cup holder without spilling.
Five Stars a few years after the fact.
Product Review: So-so at best. Summary: 2 Stars
I'm trying to be objective and review this item fairly. It looked bigger in the picture and while there may have been dimensions listed, It was hard to tell. What I mean by this is... I am an average size man (5'11")... the cupholder ends up being located directly under my forearm... not realistic to use in that location. The arms are short... maybe 12 inches and lastly the "headrest" does a wonderful job supporting my upperback and maybe a little of my neck. The vibrating massage "mechanism" is hard and uncomfortable against my lower back... in the on or off position. It is made of good quality material.
All in all it would probably be great for someone who is 5'2" or smaller... it's more child-size.
Sorry HoMedics... I wanted to give you a good review... I really did.
Product Review: Sometimes less is more, give or take Summary: 4 Stars
First, the cup holder is gratuitous and disappointing. I guess I understand where they where going with the feature incase it where for use where no surface exists for a drink, but its more uncomfortable than convenient. I just popped my stress koosh in there and now its fine. But maybe they could have forgone the cup holder for the next issue:
Second, apparently the engineers at Homedics are Leprechauns. I'm 5'10" (much to my own dismay, cursed genetics) and the headrest is more like a mid-shoulder brace. The very top of the headrest falls between my shoulder blades. It's disappointing, but I wrapped my travel neck pillow around the top and presto, I'm satisfied-it's better than a stack of tumbling pillows.
So, if you're 5'9" or shorter this is a great buy (I'm sure that would solve both the cup holder placement and neck rest height issue). No offense to you height challenged folks, but if you're an average height and stop gap measures like stress kooshes and neck pillows aren't you're cup of tea, then I suggest you try another product.
