Product Reviews of Himalayan Institute Original Neti PotProduct Review: I had absolutely no idea... Summary: 5 Stars
... how much I needed this years ago. I had put off doing this for a long time because the idea of putting salt water up your nose is completely off-putting. To most of us on this side of the world, this is considered gross, probably unsanitary, and stupid.
Well, we're all wrong. It isn't gross (to me), it is NOT unsanitary - it's what it's preventing, and it's one of the most brilliant ideas in health care. And to think that it originated thousands of years ago by people we tend to see as evolutionarily inferior!
I gave in and bought this, finally, because I'm sick and my nose was so stuffed with snot that I had to breathe through my mouth all the time. I was snotty, sneezing, and generally feeling crappy. I desperately needed something to help and medicines really weren't doing anything, as usual.
I bought this Neti Pot and the little salt jar (I couldn't be bothered to go to the store to find non-iodized salt just then. Too bloody cold!). I would definitely recommend both of these items if it is your very first time using a neti pot just because it's easier and let's you get used to how to do it. You can go find your non-iodized salt later when you're sure you want to keep doing this.
First, just because I'm sick, I blew my nose as forcefully as I could so that the water would have a way to go through. Then
I put one little scoop of salt (the little jar of salt by this same company has a little scoop included) in the jar, put in warm water, stirred for a few seconds, and then put it up to my nose. At first it seemed like there was going to be an issue because water wasn't flowing out of my other nostril. I kept experimenting with angles of the pot and my head and pretty soon it was going through. It wasn't uncomfortable and it didn't burn, but it was just... weird. The first time it did go into my mouth but I didn't really care because I just wanted the mucous out of my head. Afterward I leaned forward and blew my nose forcefully, again, to eject any excess water/mucous. I repeated with the other nostril and managed to get the angles right and it didn't go into my throat. Again, blew my nose.
I repeated the process again in each nostril and by the end of it I could, in fact, breathe through my nose! I had spit out some green gunk and most had followed out of the other nostril so I washed out the sink, rinsed the neti pot, and gently dried it.
I imagine that I'll continue to use this twice in the evenings and twice after waking up for a few days until I am well, again. Then perhaps once a day - we'll see. Definitely a great buy and I wish that I had been using this when I was little!
Product Review: I love the Neti Pot! Summary: 5 Stars
I bought this hoping that it would help my allergies and hay fever. I use it once in the morning and once before bed. It has helped greatly, and now I rarely take over-the-counter sinus medicine. I have used it for several weeks now. I didn't buy the salt that is sold here. I just bought non-iodized salt from the grocery store. I put 8 oz. through each nostril whenever I do it. If I'm feeling particularly congested, I do it more than 2x/day. I feel much better and am now hooked on the neti pot.
Product Review: I'm a Believer Summary: 5 Stars
I purchased this pot after seeing it on Oprah.
My husband had been having chronic ear infections caused from his sinus cavity. His doctor wanted to operate. We thought we would try the Netipot first. He has been using everyday and his ear infections have went from almost constantly to just one every now and then. When an ear infections does flare up, he uses his Netipot twice a day and the duration is greatly shortened.
I just recently had a cold with sore throat and ears and I tried the Netipot too. I was so much better. It relieved the pressure in my ears.
We just use with sea salt, we have never even tried the saline solutions that are sold for it. It works great for us!
Product Review: Immediate Allergy Relief! Summary: 5 Stars
I suffer from severe allergies and asthma. I take many prescription medications and OTC and it was just too much! A friend recommended trying the Neti and I started researching how to use it and how effective it could be on my allergies. I was convinced, so I purchased this Neti pot on Amazon to give it a try. I wanted the glass because it is easier to clean and will last a long time.
So I mixed up some saline and tried it. At first it was very uncomfortable, but as I got the hang of it, I couldn't believe how much better I felt, immediately! Instead of decongestant tablets and nasal sprays, I now just use the Neti. It takes just minutes and works for hours!
I also have noticed I don't get frequent sinus infections like I have in the past. No more massive doses of antibiotics! I've saved a lot of money by not having to purchase medication and treating my sinus problems holistically. Highly recommended.
Product Review: Love to neti, but this pot needs more Summary: 3 Stars
I recommend a neti pot to anyone, however, this pot is lacking something. The water spills out very easily and it doesn't really hold 8 oz as it pours out the spout past 4 oz. I bought a handmade one and I recommend doing that. Also, this pot would be so easy to break. The ceramic is super thin and doesn't seem durable. I recommend a stoneware pot as that would be much tougher.
