Product Reviews of HappyLight 4500 Sunshine Supplement Light SystemProduct Review: Mini-size natural spectrum light Summary: 4 Stars
I purchased the Verilux natural spectrum, mini ultra light. Its compact size makes it fit into many spaces and the modern design is attractive. I have only had the light for about 2-3 weeks, but I am hoping it will help with the winter blues. I'm happy with my purchase.
Product Review: Misleading Description Summary: 3 Stars
I purchased this item due to the great price and the fact that the description claims it to be 10,000 lux which was recommended to me by a sleep lab tech. On reading through the booklet enclosed with the lamp I found that it is only 5,000 lux, a fact I confirmed on the Verilux website.
Product Review: Necessity for the unhappy cubicle monkey. Summary: 5 Stars
No...it's not pretty. AND it's not a 10,000 lux lamp designed specifically for SAD (I also have one of those) but for what it is...it's perfect.
I work in an office with no windows. I've been working in an office with no windows for the last nine years. Every winter...work becomes nearly unbearable. The dry, overheated office air. No sunlight. Getting up in the dark...leaving from work in the dark. For anyone who suffers from SAD...it's like slowly descending into hell over the course of three months.
I use a 10,000 lux light in the morning with my coffee. It helps with the worst symptoms...and allows me to get to sleep at night. But it really doesn't give me the perk in the day like getting natural light does.
The Verilux light is just what it claims to be...supplemental sunlight. I start work at 8:30 in the morning...and keep it on the "high" setting until lunchtime. (When weather permitting, I try my best to spend at least a few minutes outside.) Then I turn it on the "low" setting for the rest of the afternoon.
The effect that it has had on my productivity is dramatic. My eyes stay open at my desk. I can concentrate. I am no longer contemplating grabbing my belongings and making a mad dash for my car in the middle of the day. (And unemployment.) I keep the light behind...and about 45 degrees to the right of my computer screen...so the light is almost in my peripheral vision...and have had no problems with eye strain. To the contrary...I find that I have a greater ability to focus...and need to take fewer breaks.
The only cons are that the light is a little flimsy. If you have a dedicated desk and can just set it up and leave it...then it's totally worth it. If you need something portable...one of the smaller LED lights will hold up better. And it's NOT a SAD light. But it IS a great supplement to the outdoors for those of us tied to a desk all day.
Product Review: Not worth the money Summary: 2 Stars
First, don't get me wrong... I like this item. It works. I just wish I hadn't bought it. How come? Because when I took it out of the box, I felt ripped-off.
It's cheap. It could have been made in China for less than a dollar, based on appearances. It contains a compact florescent lamp worth (perhaps) about $10. All I can say is that Verilux has awesome chutzpah to put the words 'full spectrum' and 'light therapy' on the box, magically transforming it to something worth almost $100.
The people who buy this product need help. Verilux is taking advantage of that, and using it to gouge people.
Product Review: Quality Put Me Off Summary: 3 Stars
I can't attest to whether the product *works*. All I can say is that its quality, based on its appearance, caused me to send it back. The outside packaging was ripped, and the inside packaging was dented. The white paint on the back of the light was peeling off and flaking all over my dining room table. The plastic casing around the light didn't sit flush with the rest of the unit. I didn't want to take a chance to see whether the light would hold up for more than a few weeks.
