My guess is that it's cheaper to make one's own version of a solution than buying this pre-mixed combination. Question of how much time and effort one wants to put into mixing one's own cheaper combination. In my case, it's worth paying up for the pre-mixed combination. Works very well (i.e. no stinging) --- in fact downright pleasant to use -- and particularly effective in combination with some Alkalol mixed in. Product Review: Keeps everything flowing

It seems with children and allergies, we have colds in our house all the time. Naturopaths recommend nasal irrigation to prevent colds. Normal saline burned the kids noses. In desperation, I bought this. It is wonderful. The kids use it double strength, twice a day if they feel a cold coming on. I am convinced it has prevented colds and cut in half the amount of time they are sick. My husband and I are Internal Medicine physicians and we swear by this product. I swim in a health club pool. It seems that the chlorine in the water causes me to have a stuffy nose and sneeze a lot. This solution was recommended to me by swimming friends to clean out my nasal passages. I use the spray bottle and it does promote nasal flow, though much of it is the solution itself. I can't really judge how well it works, but it does seem to elimiate most of the chlorine smell in my snout.
I orded the double pack, which is way more than I will probably ever use according to the prescribed usage.
