Product Reviews of GoWear fit Lifestyle and Calorie Management SystemProduct Review: Absolutely amazing device Summary: 5 Stars
This is great product and I think everyone should own it. Other than accurately giving calorie count, activity it also keeps track of your sleep duration. I was amazed to see my sleeping habits. Even though I slept for 7 hours, there was no continuous sleep. This helping me to understand my sleep better and improve it.
December 10th: I have been using this device for 10 months and absolutely love this. I like the recently updated website. The armband comes with display watch and have some problems with synchronizing with it. Other than that everything works perfectly fine.
Product Review: Absolutely great tool for weight loss Summary: 5 Stars
I started on a diet/exercise program in the fall of 2008. I bought an elliptical and treadmill (both reviewed on here too if you're interested) and a Polar F6 heart rate monitor. I had great success, losing just over 50 pounds by the beginning of March. However, I plateaued at this point and found it difficult to lose more. I'd read about the Bodybugg after seeing it on the Biggest Loser, but felt I didn't need to buy it with my steady progress initially. So, with the plauteu, I decided to go ahead and spring for it.
I bought the GoWear Fit over the Bodybugg mainly because I could buy it from Amazon (and it's a little cheaper). I knew it was the same original company making both products. I got mine last week; been wearing it nearly constantly since then. At first I felt the strap was a little uncomfortable, but I think I was tightening it too much. Anyway, I don't notice it at all anymore. I'm aiming for a 1,000 calorie deficit a day; logging all of my food daily to achieve that. And the scale is moving downwards again!!! It's terrific. I think I probably wasn't eating enough before the GWF on my hard workout days and probably not exercising enough on days that I don't lift weights. Either way, I'm definitely back on track. Information is very powerful, and this device provides me with the information I need to make choices about each day in terms of food and activity. I love the sleep analysis part too; it catches every nap I take during the day and all my sleep at night. I'm going to have to spend even more money....buying an all new wardrobe that is, since my clothes are really starting to hang on me. What a terrific problem to have!
Product Review: Additional Purchase Required- Buyer Beware! Summary: 3 Stars
I was shocked to learn that in order to use this product you must pay a website subscription fee otherwise the product is useless. In order to get the tracked calories from the Bodybugg/GoWear device and input your food calories, you must belong to the website. The product comes with a free 3 or 6 month subscription and after that you must pay for it. It is currently priced at $7.00 per month with an annual commitment or $13.00 per month with no long term commitment. The alternative is to purchase an wrist display for at least $80.00 which will only show you the calories you've burned but gives you no way to input your food calories. This product should come with software that you can use on your own computer to track everything. But at the very least, buyers should be informed of the additional purchase required before making a decision to purchase this item.
Product Review: After the first three weeks Summary: 4 Stars
The GWF works well, though for me less as for statistics than as a reminder. I've lost about 2.5 pounds per week, for an 8 lb total.
My 21 day report says I averaged -932 net daily calories, or 19.5k cal. At 3500 calories per pound, that's about 5.5 pounds. That's not really very far off, considering water weight and variability in recording my calories. tried to be as close as possible, but there were two or three days where that was very difficult. There's also natrual variations in food that can't be recorded. To really determine its accuracy I will need to try the arm band out longer. It'd be better if they had an estimated / actual weight loss on the reports, but this is probably too discouraging for most people.
While this information is nice, it's not how I really use the band. The information the band provides is a long term study of your daily habits. The service the band provides is as a (very expensive) reminder tool. Like the proverbial string around the finger, I perform better when I'm wearing it. Perhaps the cost of the device affects the value of its reminder, but in any case I've found it invaluable so far. It really helps when I decide to eat something I "shouldn't" (on the standard regimin), but really have no problem working it into the daily calories. My problem with recording this stuff has always been remembering (it's easy to forget to do so when you already don't want to record the desserts).
I do examine the sleep tracker daily, and it seems accurate, but my numbers are way off for the 21-day report due to a terrible cold that lasted this past week. The daily sleep tracker is my favorite of the statistics, though.
I don't pay much attention to the steps / work-out portion of the statistics page. Calories and activity level do go up when wearing the device in the car, though. I don't always remember to remove the device, but according to my numbers that's not a big deal. If you drive more than an hour a day (total), it might have a bigger effect.
My biggest problem is the cost. If it weren't a recurring fee, costs would be easier to handle. If I could find a cheaper reminder (that actually worked) I'd choose it. As I mentioned above, the fee may actually help with its effectiveness.
By category, I rate the device:
* Usefulness of statistics: 3/5
* Usefulness of sleep quality info: 5/5
* Overall usefulness for weight loss: 5/5
* Comfort: 4/5 (2/5 for the original band, which left no room for stretch)
* Ease of use: 5/5 (I AM an engineer, but it's easy and there weren't any major bugs in the first 3 weeks).
* Cost: 2/5 (Still in my free trial, but I've wanted one of these for a long time and have been turned off by the recurring fees).
Product Review: After wearing it for 2.5 months... Summary: 5 Stars
I've had my GoWearFit for 2.5 months and I was analyzing my data a few days ago. I was amazed to realize that in the short time I've been wearing it that I have somehow, subconsciously, increase my activity level by about 200-300 calories per day. Even on sedentary days I am burning more calories than I was when I first started wearing the GoWear Fit.
Also because of the scientific feedback I'm getting from this device I was able to increase the amount of food I was eating to more closely match my calorie burn. I was starving myself before! But with the science of the data I feel more comfortable eating a normal diet without depriving myself or starving my body.
It's an amazing tool and I highly recommend anyone who wants to monitor their health and weight loss get one!
