Product Reviews of Gillette Fusion Power Razor - 1 Razor, 1 Cartridge and 1 BatteryProduct Review: Gillette has gone downhill Summary: 2 Stars
This product ruins the classic Gillette name. Who really needs five blades on a razor? I have coarse facial hair and the last thing I want is five blades scrapping my face at the same time. Even when I shave very careful and go with the grain, I get very painful ingrown hairs and razor bumps. I won't even start on the price Gillette charges for this razor and its cartridges...
I have tossed this razor and now use a "old school" safety razor, the razor that made Gillette a household name. I get a much closer and more comfortable shave. Gillette, now owned by Procter and Gamble, definitely isn't what it used to be. I gave this product two stars instead of one simply because those with finer facial hair may have better luck with this product than I had.
Product Review: Good but not much better than others Summary: 3 Stars
Compared to the Mach 3 Power (M3Power) razor, I didn't think there was a significant difference in actual shaving performance. I think the 5 blades is more of a gimmick, though I like the overall design, handle, and the fact that it vibrates. I am only giving it three stars because of the high replacement blade costs and the somewhat gimmicky design of 5 blades, but it's not a bad razor. I think the shaving performance is good but not great.
Product Review: Good shave, if used the right way Summary: 3 Stars
I must admit it was the Super Bowl XL commercial that enticed me to try this razor. I'd had a not-so-good experience with the Quattro, so I was a little wary when I discovered this one had even more blades.
My experience with the Fusion: It does grab the stubble and take it off slightly better than the M3 Power, but ONLY shaving counter to the direction of the beard growth. When I shave, I usually mix my strokes up and down, and found that this razor did not remove the beard as well as the M3 Power when shaving on the downstroke. So I had to restroke my face on certain areas which remained rough after the initial shave, which actually added to my shaving time. I can only assume the other reviewers who said shaving time was decreased, use only upstrokes when shaving.
Second, I was very disappointed when the blue indicator strip disappeared completely right after the first shave. Refill blades are more expensive than the M3 Power, which usually last me 2 or 3 shaves at least.
The last con I have is that the battery button is a bit too sensitive and placed exactly where I like to hold the razor with a firm grip. Twice while I was shaving I accidentally switched it off.
Conclusion: I would use the Fusion to shave only for special or formal occasions, because of the cost of replacement blades and the shaving style needed for optimum work outweigh the benefits of the slightly better shave I could get.
For regular everyday shaving, I'm sticking with the M3 Power.
Product Review: Great Razor Summary: 5 Stars
I bought this for my father. He have used the non-battery powered razors before and he was amazed by this one. He said it's the best razors he have used before.
Product Review: Great Shave But No Better than M3 Thus Not Worth the Price Summary: 4 Stars
I conducted the classic test. I shaved one side of my face with the new Fusion power razor and the other with a Mach 3 Turbo. I had a day and a half stubble, which is my toughest shave (after that my beard soften). The shaves were nearly identical. The Mach 3 might have been a little smoother but the Fusion might have shaved a little closer. The Fusion's straight edge single blade was helpful with my sideburns. Both give great, close, smooth shaves but I couldn't see the advantage of one vs. the other. Since M3 is much cheaper, why switch?
