Product Review: Decent product, but have realistic expectations.

To put it simply, this product is nothing more than an aluminum tube with a UV light inside of it, and a small fan to blow air through the tube. It will not clean the air, remove dust or dander, remove odors, or anything else that people expect "air cleaners" to do.
This product has one single purpose: to kill any living micro-organisms that happen to be in the air. This means that, realistically speaking, you may never know if it's actually doing anything. The science behind UV-C sterilization is solid, and the product does seem built well. However, the fan is needlessly loud, and and the unit is too small to handle the air volume in even a large bathroom.
I am using this product in a small bathroom for the benefit of someone recovering from serious illness. Again, I will have no idea whether it will do anything, but it theoretically might, which is good enough for my purposes. For any space larger than a closet/bathroom, I'd suggest getting a proper air purifier with built-in UV light. There are many models that will filter dust, dirt, and odors AND contain the same UV lights as this unit. However, if you have a small space and need ONLY a sterilizer and not a filter, this product will do fine.

I have had this Germ Guardian UV-C Air Sanitizer and here's the 411:
- REALLY eliminates odors - from diaper pails to pet odor, you name it.
- very light fan sound actually helps lull my son to sleep.
- portable, used during travel and family reunions - my son never caught a bug!
- great for business travelers (used this on hotel stays) and folks with roommates (students, when you're dorm mate is sick or has a cold, this might just save you!)
- use in room setting only for it to function at 100%.
To keep this gadget working, just follow the instructions and booklet, and KEEP the info - you'll need the info for bulb replacement and repair. Got mine repaired after 2 years of continued use to be certain that it is functioning well. Like any gadget, you have to care for it as well to keep it in optimum shape.
Worth the price. An absolute must have!!!

I am very pleased with my Germ Guardian. Since I am prone to allergies which affect my sinuses and so hamper my breathing at night I use is in my bedroom. I breathe more freely and so sleep more deeply. This product is well worth the cost. Yvonne
