Product Review: Futuro Night Splint

I bought this night splint from Walgreen's, then returned it. It was one of many suggested for help with drop foot, which I now have. It was of little help for me. The fabric under the foot did not provide enough support. Yes, it is low profile, but I need something to keep the ball of my foot lifted to a 90 degree position. Also, because it is only ankle-high, it did slip down my foot, thus allowing my foot to drop to about a 60 degree angle. This in turn allowed for calf cramping. I have found that unless there is an ankle strap from heel to crook of ankle, the braces all slide down the foot. The problem with a nice secure ankle strap is that it does put pressure on the top of the ankle. This I found uncomfortable against my ganglion cysts on the top of my foot. Ai-yi-yi. So many problems.
The best thing I have found so far is the Darco pneumatic Night Splint. I'm not done looking for a better one, but in the meantime this at least keeps my calf from cramping at night, by providing calf stretch. I have also developed plantar fasciitis, which this helps to alleviate by keeping the bottom of my foot stretched. The soft lining feels cozy and comforting, and the sole has a foot-shaped tread to prevent slipping when walking to the bathroom at night. However, because it has velcro straps, I need to wear long socks or pj bottoms to protect my other leg! The plastic airline is a pain, but the air cushion under my toes is awesome. I wear a 9-9.5 USA women's shoe, so I have the Medium size splint which is a good length. People with very wide feet will like this boot, which is so wide for me that it's pretty sloshy in the toes, with no way to adjust it tighter. Like I said before, it's not perfect, but it's the best thing I've found. Don't waste your money on the Futuro brace, or if you try it, make sure you can return it if you don't like it.

This item is everything it says and more. You can actually get a good nights sleep, toss and turn if you are that type, get up and walk AND get the plantar fasciitis support you need. The first week I used this splint my foot felt GREAT! Than after a while my heel began to hurt again even with consistent use. Not sure what the problem is but even when I tighten the splint it doesn't hold up as well anymore.
