Product Reviews of Flame Tamer SIMMER Ring Aluminum HEAT Diffuser DISTRIBUTER gas stove top stovetop with Wood HandleProduct Review: Works exactly as advertised. Summary: 4 Stars
After reading other comments, I removed the wooden handle and ran the ring through dishwasher before use. Used it with a Tagine on a gas stove and it performed beautifully.
Product Review: Works great and no smoking Summary: 5 Stars
I ordered two of these, one of this brand and one Norpro. They're almost identical. There was a note enclosed that recommended washing before use to prevent smoking. I followed the recommendation and had absolutely no smoking or odor.
It works perfectly on my gas stove. I've been frustrated for years because I couldn't adjust the flame low enough to warm or gently simmer sauces and soups.
Yes, the wood handle singes near the metal, but it's better than melting plastic or a hot all-metal handle. It doesn't bother me at all. I'm just careful to place it out of direct contact with the flame.
It's definitely worth the price.
Product Review: Works well, but... Summary: 4 Stars
This product works as described in that it attenuates the heat from my gas burner on its lowest setting and makes it possible to achieve a slow simmer. My only quibble is that the wooden handle can too easily get charred by the flame from an adjacent burner. I was warned about the handle in other reviews, so this has to be q minor quibble. I believe this device is a good value for the money. I recommend it for a very careful cook who can be attentive enough to always protect the wooden handle from inadvertent charring.
Product Review: cheap at best Summary: 3 Stars
The only problem is the wooden handle is starting to char on the inside from use. The handle keeps falling off. Bad design to have wood so clse to a hear source.
Product Review: flame tamer Summary: 3 Stars
I bought this to use on my gas stove with my LeCreuset pots. I love those pots, but I do tend to use a fairly high heat and the food on the bottom burns to the bottom of the pan. I thought the diffuser would help. It does prevent burning food, but considerably slows down the cooking time (not too surprising). The wooden handle has gotten scorched from the flames - again, not too surprising - I think a different diffuser might be a better choice.
