I concieved using this device. I used OPK sticks at the same time and they never showed that I ovulated, when I saw a clear ferning pattern using the little microscope.
I agree though that it is hard to read sometimes. You have to try to get the amount of saliva right, not enough doesn't show anything and to much just looks messy. It is also hard to get the focus right. You can still see a clear difference between unfertile and fertile patterns.

Who knew spit could be so fascinating! This has got to be the coolest little contraption ever. I love it. I have no problems using it. I can definitely tell the different phases as long as I test first thing in the morning before I eat or drink anything. Definitely worth the money.Product Review: Neat little gadget

When I first got it and used it- I could not see a thing as it appeared to be too close so it was all blurry despite focusing as much as I could. But after I read reviewer's comments on how she had separated the lens away from the case and examined it that way with the light by moving it closer and further manually instead of using the focus- it worked better. It also works to hold the lens in front of any light source -also another reviewer's suggestion. I find a little saliva goes a long way by using it this way. As instructed, I ONLY use it in the morning each day when I first wake up before I do anything (no rinsing my mouth out nor brushing my teeth), and for best results, I get the saliva beneath by tongue (I just run my clean & dry finger below my tongue and place it to the correct side on the lens). I feel it helps to be sure to get your mouth clean as much as possible the night before. I wait 5+ minutes for it to dry and voila! It works well for me now. I recommend it with these fixes but the company should look into the focusing part as that part hasn't worked for me with the unit as is. Updated 1/30/2009: I found that the focus part does work -it was just stuck...it unscrews up and down well now. With it working properly - it works great.
