Epidemiological studies indicate that diets rich in antioxidants such as those contained in EyePlex, (also sold as Ocuplex), Vitamins C and E, Selenium as well as Beta-Carotene and other Carotenoids including Lutein and Zeaxanthin, are associated with a decreased incidence of age-related macular degeneration and also cataracts. DHA (docosahexaenoic acid), an essential omega-3 fatty acid, is also absolutely critical for the health of the retina. Macular degeneration is an eye condition in which there is gradual deterioration of a portion of the eyes retina called the macula (the area of finest visual perception where the lens of the eye focuses an image).
