Product Review: Don't waste your money.

When I first bought it, the temperature reading seemed to be accurate. It measured consistently between 98 and 99, and it matched closely my oral thermometer. Now it measures between 95 and 96 even though my oral thermometer still measures between 98 and 99. Before you ask, I did remove the cap and hold it level on my forehead. It's just inaccurate now.
I recently replaced the batteries, and it seems to have regained some of its original accuracy. If that was indeed the accuracy problem, then it's a poor design that doesn't shutoff the thermometer under a low battery condition.

I'm an ER nurse and we use temporal artery thermometers in our ER. They are much more accurate than underarm or in the ear, although the gold standard is a rectal temperature, which can be upsetting to children.
I actually wrote my Master's research paper on these thermometers, and here are a few tips in order to use them accurately:
1. run the thermometer from forehead (above the eye) all the way into the hairline. DO NOT LIFT the thermometer at all!!!
2. repeat this 2 more times
3. take the HIGHEST of the 3 readings. It is always important to take the HIGHEST as it is most accurate. There is a chance it didn't read right on the artery so it wouldn't be as high, which is why it is best to do 3 readings.
4. clean the head of the thermometer with a Q-tip and some alcohol occasionally to help it read accurately.
5. If your child is sweaty, the sweat dries off quickly and cools their skin temperature, so it isn't as accurate! In this case, it is better to run the thermometer over their carotid artery on their neck- off to the side of the voicebox. Run the thermometer side to side, and not up and down.
If you follow all of these steps, this thermometer is quick, easy and very accurate. I highly recommend it over any other form of temperature taking for young children.

This is an amazing invention! The package contained a battery, the thermometer itself and an instruction booklet. It was very easy to use. You simply place the top of the thermometer on your child's (or baby's) forehead and push the button. You will hear a quiet beeping sound and then you can easily check the digital reading to see if the child has a fever. It is quick, easy and accurate.
This thermometer is recommended by many doctors and is also sold in places like: Wal-Mart, Costco and Toys R Us.

Our pediatrician recommended this thermometer so I bought it hoping it would be easier and just as reliable as the rectal. I read all the instructions, practiced using it on myself, my husband and baby and I also tested the readings against a rectal reading. I am happy to say that it is easier & just as accurate!! Bought this thermometer after I had so many problems with the ear thermometer.
This is so easy to use and accurate. You don't need any disposable covers. The battery is included. Comes with easy to read/follow instructions.
You do not need to wake up any child to take their temperature. You don't have to press hard for a read. You just gently swipe it across the forehead to the temple area. It's fast easy and accurate.
