Product Reviews of Exergen Temporal Artery Thermometer MODEL# TAT-2000CProduct Review: AVOID LIKE THE PLAGUE!!!!!! AWFUL!!!! Summary: 1 Stars
Avoid this thing like the plague. As many others have said, the readings are all over the place, and can't be trusted. Thre readings will go from 97.1 to 100.2 in a flash. The margin of error is completely unacceptable. Your child could have a fever of 100.2, and you won't even know it because this thermometer is a joke.
Product Review: Absolute cinch to use - solves baby temp taking issues Summary: 5 Stars
It couldn't be easier to use. I bought it right after I saw a nurse use one at a recent doctor's office visit. A swift brush across the forehead - done! Its ease of use makes it convenient to take temps, so you're less likely to wait too long to check out your family member's suspected fever. It's the most essential home electronic since microwaves and, incredibly, this one is MADE IN THE USA!
Product Review: Accurate Summary: 4 Stars
This product was trialed in our hospital and many departments changed to this device. The ease of use, accuracy and lack of invasiveness to children is great. No more waking up a child for a nervous parent to take a temperature...just to be sure. Nice gift for a new parent.
Product Review: Accurate - Gentle - Reliable Summary: 5 Stars
Over these past years we have become accustomed to using the fast efficient ear thermometers when checking for fever in our children. Yes they work well, but the covers that are required to protect the temp sensor are dangerous. Their configuration is such that they may become lodged in a childs trachea.
We bought this Exergen Temporal Scanner Thermometer last winter. It works GREAT!
You press it gently onto the childs forehead. Lightly move it across about 2 inches and a very accurate temperature is obtained. Takes about 2 seconds. You can do it easily while your child is awake or asleep. It reads the temp in the temporal artery (in the forehead of course). No covers are required to protect the sensor.
Product Review: Accurate after a little practice! Summary: 5 Stars
Thankfully, my children have been very healthy. However, on the few occasions that I thought they might be ill, taking their temperatures was the worst part of it all! I basically relied on my mama wrist or lips feeling their foreheads if I thought they had a temperature.
When Mama Buzz asked if I'd like to test a Temporal Artery Thermometer by Exergen, I couldn't say no.
Placing the thermometer's probe in the middle of the forehead and taking a 2-second slide over to the hairline is all it takes to use Exergen's TemporalScanner.
And while that seems simple, it does take a bit of coordination and practice to keep the probe in contact with the skin. (Either that, or my kids have bumpy heads)! ;-) Breaking skin contact will give inaccurate readings.
I found it easier to take my children's temperatures if they placed their heads as if lying down.
The thermometer works by "capturing the...heat from skin over the temporal artery, which runs across the forehead and is directly connected to the heart via the carotid artery."
After a little practice, I received consistent 98.4-98.6 readings over and over from me, my husband, and kids. I even tested the thermometer on my wrist, just to see if it was really giving a "real" temperature. Yep, my wrist was a much cooler 97.something.
I would definitely buy this as a baby shower gift!
