Product Review: Great product, not quite perfect

This is a very handy tool to have. I must say that the last thing that I want to do when my little one feels sick is to take his temperature rectally. This product is used in lots of hospitals and was given to us as a gift after a family friend had a hospital stay. As some other posters have mentioned, it takes some practice to get the hang of it. You do need to have the right angle to get an accurate reading. I typically take 3-4 readings to determine the correct temperature. As far as improvements, I would love if this product had a swivel in the head part of it to make getting the right angle easier. Also, someone else mentioned this, but a backlight would be HUGE. This thermometer is so great that I can take my son's temperature without waking him up. However, I have to run out of his room into the hallway to read it since it isn't backlit.
All in all, a great product. We've used it on every member of the family!

I bought this thermometer because I don't want to take a temp on my daughter rectally every time I think she might have a temperature. Our pediatrician wants a rectal temp to be seen for a sick appointment, so I can at least get an idea of if I need to go through that hassle. I do agree with the reviewer who said that its a bit difficult to know if the unit is placed flat on the forehead. I don't think that it is that hard though. We'll take this to out next appointment to see just how accurate it is.Product Review: Had high hopes, but it is Inconsistent. Unreliable, Useless, pick something else.

I checked all the options available and thought this was the best for a baby. I was terribly wrong, this thermometer has incredible variations within measurements, these could range from 1 to 4 degrees. At first I thought I was using it incorrectly (not only on the boy but also on me and my wife), but after asking (4) friends to take measurements (one of them is a doctor) I realized that it was not me but the thermometer. To be sure I took it with us to the following appointment with the pediatrician, and guess what, the same happened.
I followed the most obsessive measurement taking waiting 60, 30 and 10 seconds between measurements, and the discrepancies still remained. So finally I gave up. This is really frustrating I will have to do a lot of research again I hope I do not get tricked by what seem to me "misleading reviews". Good luck in your search!

This is a handy thermometer for when they're sleeping or fussy (which tends to happen when they're sick). My only problem was that the readings seem to jump around sometimes. It might be user error. Trying to hold a baby and press a thermometer to her head wasn't always easy. It was however a lot easier than holding a thermometer under her arm or making her really mad an using it elsewhere.Product Review: Hunk of crap
