Product Reviews of Eva-dry E-500 Renewable Wireless Mini DehumidiferProduct Review: Basically worthless Summary: 1 Stars
This "dehumidifier" doesn't! That's the short version: How some of these raters suggested that this would dehumidify a room is beyond me.
I placed this "dehumidifier" in a 25 cubic foot gun safe w/ a humidity gauge. The safe is a quality safe and has great seals, etc. The humidity in the garage where the safe was located indicated 48%.The gauge indicated 61% humidity when I placed it inside the safe. I was out of town for a little over two weeks and the humidity gauge indicated 61% upon return.
This tells me two things:
1. No outside air gets into the safe
2. This thing can't dehumidify anything.
I then put it in my boy's bathroom (3 boys) where the humidity measured 80%--wet towels hanging, wet shower mats, etc. Yes, I know it is too small for a room but I wanted to see if it would change color to indicate it was absorbing anything.
Two weeks and the color was still blue. I called the company in Florida and a man said to send it back and that I might have gotten "bad crystals". Yes, I really intend to spend $7 to send this junk back and maybe receive another piece of junk.
Amazon should be ashamed!
I would have rated it zero stars but this system would not do it.
UPDATE- Amazon, to it's credit, did let me return this thing and they returned my money.
Product Review: Big reward in small package Summary: 5 Stars
I live on the eastern shore little more than 6 feet from the water's edge. This makes lots of moisture - especially in closets and closed areas. This unit is FANTASTIC because you place it in such areas and recheck in a week, if the color has changed (absorbed moisture) you remove, plug into an outlet to recharge, and replace it or change locations. Just that easy!!! Removed musty smells, too. My gun safe was literally growing mold on my cherished gun collection. Simple solution for a big problem was buying two units and rotating them. Great product. I am buying two more!!!
Product Review: Confusing, but overall a good product. Summary: 4 Stars
The instructions for the E-500 are vague, but I eventually figured out how to use the hook through the power prongs. One thing that is really confusing, and I think the cause of some 1 star reviews is the status window. The instructions say when the beads are blue, they are ready to absorb moisture, and when they are pink, they are at full capacity and need recharging. The status window where you view the beads is dark blue, and if you don't look closely, the beads will always look blue. If you can tell your eyes to ignore the blue background, you can see the true color of the beads. I think mine were pink for weeks before I discovered they were pink. Other than those two issues, this is a good product and works well. Like other reviewers have noted, you cannot just plug this into a wall outlet to recharge it. You need to plug it into a power strip so the plug goes downward into the outlet and the power strip can support the weight of the E500. It should recharge in a place where it can release the absorbed moisture. I recharge mine in the garage.
Product Review: Dehumidifier Summary: 3 Stars
I basically got this item for free through a promotional deal on Amazon / with the manufacturer. As it needs to be used long term in order for a true assessment, I can't say much about it at this point. I will say that, even though it came with a hook for hanging, I couldn't, for the life of me, figure out where to put the hook. Yeah, it could be a "user error" but I kinda' doubt it. The product comes with minimal instructions.
Product Review: Dehumidifier that works Summary: 4 Stars
The E-500 Eva-dry series of renewable mini demumidifiers are better than the 300 series I used to buy as they are more powerful and durable. It works and the best feature of this product is that they are renewable. It's a good buy.
