Product Reviews of Escali High-Capacity Bathroom Scale with Body Fat/Body Water Monitoring (440lb / 200kg)Product Review: Love this scale! Summary: 5 Stars
Very easy to use scale and well worth the price. If you want a great product, this is a good one!
Product Review: Misadvertised maximum weight capacity. Summary: 1 Stars
This scale has 4 sensors at each of the feet which hook into the main computer; it averages the weights of these scales to determine the users weight however the rigid glass construction does not allow for even distribution of weight among the sensors which causes one or more of them to go over-weight and error out. Below 380 pounds the scale is accurate but over that it craps out. Unless you are perfectly balanced you will not get an accurate reading.
I purchased this model to replace a Tanita HD351 which worked up to 460 pounds; I have gone from 550 down to near 400 and have weighted myself on everything from Gym scales to the industrial kind you find in a warehouse to doctors office scales. What makes the Tanita work is the large platform; you place your feet near the center and the metal top distributes the weight evenly amongst the 4 sensors; it's the difference between balancing on a metal ball and a balloon.
Product Review: Nice Summary: 4 Stars
Its helped me review my weight, BMI, water content and the interfaceis nice for multiple to keep track at home without having to bend over and manipulate any switches.
Product Review: Nice looking and functional, but has minor usability issues. Summary: 4 Stars
This scale is very nice looking, and seems sturdy. When you step on, it starts counting. If you continue to stand on it, it will count to ten twice, then turn off... leaving you wondering. Why not just give a weight at that point?
Maybe I'm out of touch with scale technology, but I expect to step on a scale and have it tell me how much I weigh. More advanced features are fine (and I expect to read the manual before being able to take advantage of them), but stepping on the scale and getting a weight is a pretty nice out-of-the-box feature. I docked it half a star for failing to deliver that basic functionality.
I found the documentation easy to understand. Once you take the time to read the manual (or happen to notice that you can step off any time before the count completes, then step back on for a weight), the scale seems to measure weight accurately. I can't vouch for the accuracy of body fat and water measures--I haven't compared it with other sources.
It also has buttons on the front, which seems less convenient than having buttons on the back or top where they'd be toe-accessible. This seems noteworthy for a high capacity scale likely to be used by people who might have trouble reaching the buttons with their fingers. Fortunately those buttons are only important for initial setup, so I only docked it another half star.
I like it overall, but it made a poor first impression. Fortunately first impressions become less important over time, and this scale seems like it will last. I do not recommend it for an environment where there will be frequent new users, though.
Product Review: Nice scale at a reasonable price Summary: 4 Stars
The scale is very nice for the most part. It looks sleek, has good functionality, and measures fairly consistently. My fiancé and I both use it, and like it. The only reason it gets 4 instead of 5 stars is that switching between users is a bit cumbersome. You need to press on the scale until your user number appears and then release. If you are not user number 1 (I am number 2) it can be easy to overshoot the user number.
