It is smooth and doesn't pull against dry cracked heel, however I liberally applied lotion to my feet at night and to be honest with enough lotion no socks would pull it. I like it, but I wouldn't buy it again b/c It isn't NECESSARY to cure cracked heels. You have wash it after maybe two uses if you use a lot of lotion/cream and after I put them it the wash I just began using regular socks and never used them again. Also, they don't fit well so after going to bed I would wake up without it on.
