Product Reviews of Earth Friendly Products Ecos 2x Liquid Laundry Detergent, Magnolia & Lily, 100-Ounce Bottle (Pack of 4)Product Review: Did not really clean clothes well. Summary: 2 Stars
I'm really starting to upgrade all of my cleaning products to "green" stuff and I'm testing different brands. So far, my favorite "green" products have been Mrs Meyers and Method brands. (Especially the Mrs Meyers laundry detergent in lemon verbena!) That said...
This stuff was a weird consistency -- almost like a thick egg white. Which is fine, but it was odd. I'm sure it's due to the environmentally healthy contents. The smell was ok. But the problem was that it really didn't clean our clothes. We have a normal top loading washer and we aren't particularly stinky or oily people and our pillowcases came out smelling and looking dirtier than when they went in.
I really really wanted to like this stuff.
Product Review: Does NOT get your laundry clean! Summary: 1 Stars
I really wanted to like this detergent because I try to use as many environmentally friendly cleaning products as possible. Unfortunately, this stuff simply does not work to remove dirt and stains, AT ALL. I'm not talking about ketchup, oil, red wine or blood stains--as those can be tough to remove even with the harshest of chemicals. I'm talking simple dirt on a sock from shoes that got muddy, or dust from a reusable cloth that was used to wipe down some shelves, or soil from a dish cloth. Things come out of the washer looking like you forgot to add soap at all. I even tried boosting the laundry with Borax, using hot water, using a longer wash cycle... none of which did anything to make my laundry any cleaner.
The light, non-sickening fragrance is nice, and it's nice to see someone trying to make safer detergent. Unfortunately, I want my laundry to actually be clean if I am gonna expend the time, water, and electricity to get it done.
Please do not waste your money on this product unless you don't mind half of your laundry coming out looking like it's still dirty. It's not asking for miracles to expect your laundry detergent to get simple dirt out from a sock. Green products will never catch on with the mainstream unless they can produce some reasonably similar results to those products that harm our environment.
Product Review: Does the job well! Summary: 4 Stars
Compared to other earth friendly detergents, this one is definitely one of the best (I haven't tried them all, so I can't say it's #1 just yet!). I work in an office, so my daily clothes don't get particularly dirty, though I also use this on my sweaty gym clothes as well. I find that it does a good job of removing stains and odors and leaves my clothes smelling clean and fresh, though I have never tested the product without either chlorine bleach (whites) or biokleen oxygenated bleach (all other loads). It's definitely a winning combo. I find that you do still need fabric softner with this product, and the method squeaky green dryer sheets complement this product well.
I will say that if you're looking to remove heavy stains and odors, I'm not sure that any eco friendly detergent will satisfy you. though, honestly, I think that is a result of the heavy fragrance used in conventional products more than anything... which merely cover up odors rather than truly remove them.
For my needs, ecos works great at a price I love!
Product Review: ECOS Laundry Prod Summary: 5 Stars
I first found this product @ Costco in FL and loved it. The cleaning performance, fragrance, environmentally friendly, and it does not take a lot of product to get desired result. I moved to AR (the home of Walmart) and needless to say no Costco. One health food store in my area carries the product, but not regularly. I was very happy to purchase the product online and very happy with home delivery.
Product Review: ECOS is the best laundry product I've found in years! Summary: 5 Stars
When COSTCO in MA and other states stopped carrying ECOS, I nearly died! I had become hooked on its cleaning properties as well as its environmentally responsible formulation. (My friend who's traveled a lot in Mexico said the smell reminded her of the fresh clean clothes on air-drying lines there!) I searched for it in every store I could think would carry it, and did not locate one bottle. I left messages at my local COSTCO locations, both in their suggestion box and in person with management. They said they were phasing out the product! Soon after I realized Kirkland brands of COSTCO had made a competing product, and that's clearly why they stopped carrying such an awesome product like ECOS. BTW, their product, while "okay", doesn't compare at all to ECOS -- nice try, but you failed. I only bought one bottle of Kirkland's product and that will be it. I was desperate to have my lily-magnolia scented soap again --- so, I went to the internet, where I found ECOS at an unbelievable price on Amazon. I've told all my friends about it, and they like me, are now happily using Amazon as their go-to for products like laundry soap. Now, only if ECOS would come out with a softener line as well!!
