Product Reviews of EL1012A Ergorapido Hand Vacuum

Product Review: 15 Minute Battery Life!! Not a Regular Vac, Only For Touch-Ups.
Summary: 3 Stars

You should know before you buy: the battery only allows 10 minutes of vacuuming. This works for about 800 sq ft, maybe 1000. It needs 20 HOURS of charging between uses. No where in the sales description or owner's manual does it say this. I called customer service and they said that's normal.

I thought about returning it because of that, but I do like it. It's lightweight and easy. It does great with pet hair, but it fills up quickly. Basically, it's a dustbuster with a long handle. The dustbuster part comes off to pick up larger things, like coffee beans. The attachments allow for sucking dirt from under the stove, fridge, etc. It is no good on upholstery and probably not great on carpet.

UPDATE: I wish I could up my stars to 4 because even with the short battery life, I love it for the ease of use. It kind of forces me to do my vacuuming quickly with no dilly dallying around. I always know my 1500 sq ft of polished concrete floors will be vac'd in less than 15 min, so it's no big deal for me to vac more often. This beats sweeping any day!

Product Review: A mixed bag
Summary: 3 Stars

Overall, I feel that this product is a mixed bag.

Pros:
-- lightweight
-- cordless (I never realized how awesome that feature was until I bought this vacuum)
-- vacuums my carpet and sofas very well (I'm amazed at what it picks up every day!)

Cons:
-- not so good on tile - I have a long tiled hallway, where the litter box is, and litter is constantly getting kicked out onto the floor. This vacuum gets about 50% of the litter (I vacuum daily). It likes to push the litter into the edge where the carpet and tile meet, and then I have to dig it out. It also likes to glide over the litter and not actually suck it up. I have to go over one area several times to pick up all the litter.

-- battery life - It lasts 15-20 minutes. This is not a huge issue for me, as I live in a 1 bedroom. The battery life is enough to get the living room, hallway, and dining area. However, for those with larger areas to vacuum, bear in mind that you will have to wait about 15 hours in between chargings.

Overall, I love it for the ease of use. If I had all carpet, I would give it 5 stars. But the fact that it does a poor job on tile knocks it down to 3 stars.

Product Review: A powerful, convenient, cordless vac
Summary: 5 Stars

As someone who purchases many products online, I find the product reviews to be helpful.
I hope my review helps someone looking for a cordless vac. This one is great! It is powerful: cleans my hardwood and carpeting (thin, wool, area type) very well. It actually cleans as well as a full size vacuum. It easily converts to a hand-held and the attachments are nicely stored in the charging unit. The charger keeps the vacuum neatly stored, preventing it from sliding or falling. The dirt collector empties easily. I keep the unit on the charger when not in use: it is always charged, ready to use, and has yet to run out of power. I find it perfectly designed.

Product Review: A synergy of function and design
Summary: 5 Stars

I hate vacuuming. After I bought this stick vac, I've been looking for every opportunity to suck up dust. Really. This is one wonderful tool.

My hardwood stairs are the bane of my vacuuming chores. I'd lug the heavy 20 pound house vacuum up the stairs and use the hose attachment tool. Had enough of that. I went shopping for a corded dustbuster that had power. I wasn't actually looking for a stick vac.

My warehouse store had a floor model of the Electrolux Ergorapido Cordless EL1012A. It had some heft to it, and didn't feel flimsy. it was easy to maneuver and glided smoothly on the floor. It was $80.00, twice as much as I was willing to pay for a dustbuster. But how would it perform? After reading the impressive reviews on Amazon, I bought it.

The unit comes in two pieces out of the box. Just attach the handle to the lower body. I had to wait a full 24 hours for it to charge, before using it. In that time I admired the sleek styling and build. I don't buy high end tools so I'm not used to seeing this quality in something so inexpensive.

This is like the Mercedes of Stick Vacs, with the price tag of a (insert name of low end car brand here). Every piece that has to click into place (from the dust cup to the hand vac) did it perfectly, with a positive clickey sound. I don't have to force or twist anything to make it fit. Release buttons release things, effortlessly.

The charging unit can be placed on the ground, or wall mounted. I just left it on the ground. I don't have to carefully match up the vac's parts to the charger station. I just slip the vacuum into the general vicinity, and when it parks in place, the steady blue charging lights go on.

After 24 hours passed, I started vacuuming. I use it only on my tiled and hardwood floors. It was almost TOO smooth on my floors, as if it were running away from me. Some of the reviews say that it won't last more than 15 minutes on a charge. I'm glad I don't have that problem. If I have to spend that much time attached to a vacuum, I won't be vacuuming at all.

They make it so easy to clean the dustcup that I clean it after every use. The plunger on the inner dustbag has got to be the funniest and most innovative way to get rid of small particles. The roller brush is easy to remove and pop back in. Like another reviewer suggested, I use a sewing seam ripper to loosen stuck hairs. This is truly an ergonomic machine, designed to make it easy to upkeep.

I use it daily on my bathroom floors for hair pickups, in the hallways for dust, and in the kitchen for crumbs. Electrolux engineers, my house thanks you!

Update September 2010:
One year of owning this, and it's still going strong. I empty the dirt cup after every use. There's been no loss in suction. I only use it at most ten minutes at a clip. Not because it runs down, I just run out of surfaces to clean.

Some of the reviewers expected this to be a VACUUM. It is not meant to be a substitute for a rug or carpet vacuum cleaner. Its a dustbuster on steroids, and that's all I expected it to do, which it does perfectly!

Product Review: An exercise in futility
Summary: 1 Stars

This vacuum cleaner with a full charge has low suction power. It even sounds weak. And what dirt particle it is able to move is pushed behind you, not up into the collection bin, which means multiple run through at different speed to hopefully pick up the dirt. After a vacuuming my kitchen floor, it doesn't look/feel clean. I end up sweeping the floor, the old fashioned way, to collect the stray particles. As one who wants to believe the best and refuse the admit that a purchase was truly a waste of money, I didn't know how bad this ergorapido is until I bought a Miele. This Ergorapido will be in my giveaway collection.
