Product Reviews of Duro-Med Adult Short Leg (23) Protector, ClearProduct Review: Water Proof your cast Summary: 5 Stars
Don't even waste your time with home remedies of masking tape and plastic bags. They will leak and drive you nuts. This product performed superbly; no leaks, easy to use, made showering with a cast a snap.
Product Review: Worked okay but.... Summary: 3 Stars
Broke my leg and ankle and was anxious to be able to shower. Ordered this and indeed I was able to slide it over the cast with some effort, and happily was able to take a shower and keep the cast dry.
Unfortunately the gasket/seal tore as I was taking it off, so I only got one use out of it. Sort of expensive for one shower!
Going forward, I used a trashbag and water-proof medical tape, and that did the trick... Perhaps I had bad luck, but this product was too expensive to only use once.
Product Review: Works Great! Summary: 5 Stars
This cast protector works great! I'm 6'4, and I wear a size 13 shoe (US), so I have bigger feet and legs than most, and this product is (barely) able to fit over my post-surgery SPLINT, which is larger than my cast will be in a week. (I've had a cast for the past 3 weeks before the surgery) Length is not a problem, it goes all the way up to my knee.
After the shower the inside of the cast protector was bone-dry. Not only is it easier to use than garbage bag + rubber bands, but it works better too!
After a few uses, I've completely ignored it while in the shower. Although I still wouldn't submerge it in water, I don't take any special precautions to avoid getting it wet in the shower.
Product Review: Worth it Summary: 4 Stars
Highly recommended. I have been using it for two weeks on my leg cast, which goes up to just below my knee. It fits well, and works perfectly in the shower. It is far better than the garbage bag/saran wrap/duct tape contraption I used at the start. Having a cast is a pain, but showering with this protector on is worry-free. The plastic is heavy duty, and as long as the rubber ring is perfectly flush around your skin, you will stay completely dry.
I am 6' tall, and the ring/top part does not go above my knee (as shown in the picture), but it works fine just below the knee and above the cast.
I read an earlier review about how hard it can be to get the rubber top over parts of the cast, and agree that this can be a problem. I've found the heel to be the hardest point to get around. In fact, just yesterday I punctured a hole in the rubber trying to guide it over the heel. Be careful not to pull too much on the rubber itself. The instructions on the box tell you to pull the protector up or down handling only the plastic ring. It's good advice, but nearly impossible. At some point I have to work the rubber part over the heel, but gently, so I don't rip it again.
I had already purchased another protector for back-up, and am glad I did. The benefit of a worry-free shower experience is well worth the money.
Product Review: Wow - did not work for me. Summary: 1 Stars
This did not work for me at all. If you have a broken leg or ankle, usually you are in pain. Trying to get my boot through this opening was impossible. Literally couldn't be done - maybe could be done but with extreme twisting of my foot which is prohibitavely painful. Maybe it works with casts better. I ended up cutting off the top ring and then taping the top around my boot instead of using the ring. It kind of did it's job after I modified it that way. I hate to give bad reviews but - sorry - this deserved it. My boot is not much bigger than a cast. So, this didn't work in my situation but it may work in yours.
