There are loads of differing opinions and experiences to read from, so declaring these to be the best / worst batteries ever is probably not helpful to you.
What hopefully is helpful, is being able to confirm that as of mid-March 2010, Amazon is selling the rebadged white-top Eneloop batteries that are made in Japan.

I use four of these batteries at a time in my Fuji camera. Before the Pre-Charged batteries came on the market my regular rechargeable batteries lasted less than three weeks even if I didn't use the camera at all. I became used to changing out the batteries everytime I planned to use the camera. But no more. Now I can simply pick up the camera and use it everytime. The batteries don't have to be replaced until I have taken many pictures.Product Review: Loses charge quickly

I bought 3 packs of these (each from a different store) for use on Wii remotes. They don't hold a charge any more, and I only used them a few times each. They worked great the first time, then I noticed that each time I recharged them they would lose their charge faster and faster. I even used the discharge function on my charger, but that didn't help. In some cases, they only worked for MINUTES! I've used Sony rechargeable batteries on my Wii controllers before, and they last for HOURS. Just a heads-up whom this matters.
I have yet to see a serious comparison of the white tops versus the black tops, though...unless someone can point me to a comparison.
