Product Reviews of Duracell 15 Minute Battery ChargerProduct Review: A little noisy, but otherwise good. Summary: 4 Stars
Not having used any previous versions, I don't have anything with which to compare this product, but so far so good. It is a bit noisy, particularly when you're working in a quiet location such as a library or archive, but since it does charge within 15 minutes, it's not too bad. Battery performance is much better than regular alkaline.
Product Review: Agree with others Summary: 1 Stars
It is quick, but also trashes your batteries. I started using these few months ago for external flashes. After about two dozen recharges, the batteries are trashed. They don't hold charges. Straight out of charger, recycle time of the external flashes are 11 seconds. These used to take 3.5 - 5 seconds with fresh new batteries.
Product Review: BAD! THIS CHARGER DESTROYS YOUR BATTERIES!! Summary: 1 Stars
I purchased this charger and an additional 8 packs of 4 batteries (36 batteries total) in May 2006, and it is now almost Jan 2008. A few months ago (August 2007), I noticed that I would charge ALL of the batteries, and not use them for a week, then when I went to use them, they were practically DEAD! Even as soon as they are done charging now they probably only charge to 60 percent capacity, and die very quickly. I couldn't believe it. I have had great success with NiHM batteries in the past, but this is ridiculous! I spent hours online, researching battery technology and chargers to find out that any charger that charges your batteries faster than one our SEVERELY DECREASES THE LIFESPAN of your batteries! I purchased a set of Eneloop batteries which hold a charge much longer than any other NiMH batteries on the market. I will be contacting Duracell to find out if I can get replacement batteries for the small fortune I have lost on these.
Don't get me wrong, it's not the batteries that have the problem. Duracell makes great batteries. It's their pathetic charger that killed them all.
Unfortunately, people review these products and give them five star ratings without owning them for more than a few months.
I know someone else who had the same exact problem with the Energizer version of this 15 minute charger.
DO NOT BUY THESE.
Product Review: Batterie Recharger Summary: 5 Stars
Rechargable batteries now adays are requirement.
Duracell makes a great 15 minute recharger that pays for it self almost immediately.
I would reccomend this product to anyone who has a need for AA or AAA batteries.
Product Review: Beats the bunny Summary: 5 Stars
The reviewers who say this unit is a bit bulky are correct -- it is. However that's a small price to pay for the excellent performance. At the moment I am trying unsuccessfully to "kill" the Duracell batteries I charged with this unit by taking continuous pictures with my digital camera...but the batteries just refuse to die.
The camera in question is a known battery hog, and kills alkaline and Eveready rechargeable batteries alike after only a few shots. So I'm absolutely delighted that I can take tons of shots with the Duracells and the batteries remain strong.
I wonder if the reviewer who claims his Duracell batteries began to die rapidly is suffering from a memory problem. It's a popular misconception that NiMH batteries are immune to this phenomenon. You have to use the batteries until they die, THEN recharge them. If you don't drain them completely, they develop a "memory" which causes the kind of problem the reviewer indicates.
Nor, for that matter, should it be a complete surprise that this charger prefers Duracells to Eveready batteries or other brands. Batteries and chargers are sometimes specifically engineered to work together. (Look at Anton-Bauer.)
Having used both an overnight Eveready charger with Eveready batteries, and this unit with Duracell batteries, I can tell you that the difference is night and day. This charger simply blows the bunny away, and I'm very glad to finally find something that lets me enjoy my camera the way I want to, for as long as I want to.
