These protein snack bars stack up favorably against the best-tasting bars on the market. The fresh raspberry flavor is complemented with an undercurrent of lemon, The vanilla icing sweetens them up just enough, and is reminiscent of the "milk-and-cereal" bars on the market. They're chewy without being sticky or gummy, though I found them just a bit mealy (the soy, no doubt). They're a quick and nutritious alternative for breakfast, or an afternoon snack-time boost. They're high in protein (14g), fiber (5g, 18%), calcium (20%) and vitamin D (30%), and very low in sodium (65mg, 3%) and cholesterol (5mg, 1%). On the other hand, they are relatively high in calories (180), carbs (21g, 7%), fat (5g, 8%, 2g saturated, 0g trans fat) and sugar (10g). I'll leave it up to the consumer to decide how well this product fits into their dietary needs, but I for one found them overall to be tasty and satisfying.Product Review: Refreshing taste!

Dr. Melina's bar has protein, carb and calorie ratios comparable to other similar products plus an unusual taste for a protein bar. It has a fairly typical crispy layer of what is probably soy, and a bottom coat of yellow lemony icing. It has little pieces of dried raspberry in it which probably contributes to the taste. If you eat a lot of protein bars like I do, a new taste is refreshing. The taste reminds me of Starburst fruit chews.
Unfortunately after chewing for a few seconds there is grittiness to the texture and oil coats the tongue. I tasted the crispy layer separately and it had a vitamin aftertaste. The lemon icing is really good--creamy and lemony. I think this would work better if this was a chocolate bar, because the textures don't go with the light flavor. Nevertheless it is obviously a quality product with healthy ingredients. So for me it is not a staple but for when I want a change.

Wow, these bars are sugary. I've heard that if a protein bar tastes good, then that means there is too much sugar in it. And I think thats the case with these bad boys. Overall, the flavor wouldn't be too bad if the lemon wasn't so overpowering and fake-tasting. I guess if you need some protein and can't stomach a real protein bar, then these might be for you.Product Review: Sweetness and bite

The texture of this bar is good - neither too chewy nor crunchy - a definite improvement on most protein bars. It is very sweet, but the sweeteners in it are mostly more healthful than plain sucrose. It has a surprising tanginess - a sharp bite to it - which may or may not be to your taste. The advantage of that, of course, is that you can kid yourself you're getting a portion of citrus fruit. I like the size, which is enough to stave off hunger pangs (`keep the worms from biting', as my Mom used to say) without loading you with too many calories. So, if you want a sweet, fruity snack which will not totally ruin your diet plan, try these bars.
