I have used Fels Naptha for years to prevent poison ivy. When I know I've been exposed to poison ivy, I wash with Fels Naptha. If I begin to feel a poison ivy itch, despite being unaware of having been exposed, I wash the itchy spot with Fels Naptha. If I cannot get to the soap when I start to itch, as soon as I can, I wash with Fels Naptha. The soap effectively prevents poison ivy when used preventively, and somehow short-circuits an outbreak once it has begun. I've never tried this as a laundry soap or stain remover but can emphatically state that is does miracles with Poison Ivy or Poison Oak. Just place your finger under the water faucet and make a paste with the soap. Rub it all over the area affected. It will dry it up and take the itch out immediately! I am very allergic to Poison Ivy / Oak and have tried every medication, shots, etc., and highly rank this as one of my favorites...if not my favorite! Perfect stain remover and good in homemade laundry detergents. I also use it for cleaning by rubbing it on a wet cloth. It gets the countertops and sinks cleaner than any of the spray cleaners I used to use, plus it's cheaper and doesn't spread strange chemicals in the air as sprayers do. I use these old-fashioned kinds of cleaners (vinegar, borax, soap) because we have a child with eczema and two asthmatics in the house, so Windex and fabric softeners weren't working out so well. My only complaint is the strong smell. It's not a bad smell, in my opinion, just makes me a little wheezy. I wonder whether that's added or part of the active ingredients? Overall, great stuff, and I'm glad you can order it online because it's hard to find in some places.
