Product Reviews of "Derby Extra" Stainless Steel Double Edge Razor Blades

Product Review: Blade quality seems descent, value is awesome.
Summary: 5 Stars

I mainly switched to DE shaving because of the price difference compared to upkeep for a Mach 3. Heh, well this is a good example. $18 for a year supply compared to $11 for a pack of 5 Mach 3 blades to last roughly a little over a month.. yeah.. The shave these give out is descent; much better though when compared to the Parasienne (or however it is spelled) blades I purchased at Wal-Mart. Oh, and just to put things into perspective, Mach 3 shaves are poor compared to these.

Product Review: Can't go wrong here! Good balance--sharp, but not TOO sharp.
Summary: 5 Stars

Sharper than Merkurs, safer than the uber-sharp Feathers. A good balance, yet half the price of most of the other double-edge brands.

Plus DE blades yield a much better shave than Gi11ette cartridges which cost a small fortune.

In fact, last year ShavingFactory (doing business here on Amaz. as DerbyInternational) ran a fantastic Buy 100, get 100 free PLUS the free Derby cream for under 25 smackers, no shipping. Wowza! (The Derby cream is OK, especially at the price, but I'll stick with my tub of Taylor. I'll probably use the Derby cream as my travel tubes.) But even the regular price on these Derbys is an excellent deal.

I find these last me about three shaves, but I go back for multiple passes each shave (in search of the elusive BBS) so if you don't do that they will likely yield you longer life. At these prices, I err on the side of 'gimme a new blade right now' anyway.

I'm glad I broke in on Merkurs, which seemed a bit more forgiving, but now I find these Derbys quite satisfying, a nice balance at an excellent price.

Here's a post about DE/retro/wetshaving I've made elsewhere in Amaz., thought it might be useful to repeat it

It takes a while to learn "the touch" of a DE razor, they'll be some nicks, but after that, it is actually a much, much better shave.

Yes, cartridge blades are a total rip-off, incredibly overpriced. They too are a scam. The government recently forced Gi11ette to stop claiming the battery-powered handles improve performance. They do not. And four, five blades, turbo blades, and so on -- it's all just hype to make you pay a fortune for a whole lot of nothing. Wake up, guys. five bucks for a razor blade?

Gi11ette has, over the years, simply bullied old-school flat double-edge "safety razor" blades off of the retail shelves of America. Why? Because any competitor can make a regular double-edge razor blade without violating a Gi11ette patent. Because of the patents Gi11ette holds on worthless gimmicks like five-blade cartridges, it has a monopoly on them. (Gi11ette actually sued Sch-lick claiming it held the patent rights on ALL multi-edge cartridge technology. Gi11ette lost.) And, of course, when there is a monopoly, prices go sky-high.

In that most consumers do not take the time to look for other options, he/she has only his/herself to blame for being suckered into five bills a blade. Old-school flat DE (double-edge) blades cost incredibly less and, after the learning curve, yield up a superior shave. I recently bought TWO HUNDRED DE blades, a well respected brand, a great sale admittedly, for under 25 smackers, bottom line. THAT IS 6.25 c&nts PER EDGE, FOLKS ...

Trust me, DE/retro/safety/"wetshaving" with a quality cream will change shaving from chore into a small luxury that you look forward to each morning. And you'll save a small fortune along the way.

Product Review: Decent quality, for a great price.
Summary: 4 Stars

I gave these a try after using the feather blades, which are a lot sharper. I definately like the sharpness/irratability ratio of these blades, BUT only after the first shave on the blade. The very first shave on a new blade always drags/pulls on my hair. After the "break-in" shave, they perform very well. A lot less irritability coming from Feather.

Product Review: Decent shave, great value
Summary: 4 Stars

I get pretty good results with these blades. Reasonably close, no major cuts or irritation. About on par with Merkur blades. There are blades that work better for me (Wilkinson Sword), but we are all different, and what's right for me may not be right for you.

Can't beat the value though. This is a high quality blade.

Product Review: Derby Extra Razor Blades
Summary: 5 Stars

For the price of one fusion razor cartridge, I can shave at least 100 times. This reason alone, I'm very satisfied with the product. However, if I were to compare with other razor blades such as Meckur, it's not as sharp. But still, 5 times cheaper. Derby razor is the best bang for the buck.
