if you dont use distilled water then this is a must! You will not get any of the white cloud that you would using tap water. That white cloud is not very good for any electronics! Using this product is very simple and very economical.Product Review: negligible reduction in white dust

These filters only make a negligible difference in the white dust produced when using tap water in the humidifier. I would estimate that it takes about three tanks of water with this filter to produce the same amount of dust as one tank without a filter. I will be switching to distilled water or another humidifier.Product Review: no complaints
