I've read of others whose Crane humidifiers stopped working after a few months. We have hard water so I was afraid of our humidifier failing as well. So far, after 3 months of use with the filter cartridge, our humidifier is still working....Product Review: Crane Demineralization Filter is great

I used Homes humidifier, but we throw to garbage box after use a few weeks. But this one is very good, especially small size room like our apartment. So far we do not have problem except it is very sensitive to put the sensor in right position, otherwise bother the flushing.Product Review: Filter is great with well water

We have the crane and we have this cartridge, we have used well water and filtered water from the Walmart machine. We are happy with both. This has gotten a LOT of use, our son who is 6 and is terminally ill and our daughter who is 4 and had her second surgery, it has ran SO much.
We are in need of a second filter now so if anyone that was unhappy with theres and has any extras check us out [...] and send them our way, we will use them.

It smelled like weird plastic for a whole day, but now its stopped. It seems like it just had to run water through it ^^ I think its decreased the strange smell coming from the humidifier. If you follow the instructions, I dont think there would be much of a problem.
