I like the idea of shave soap, but man... having used Taylor shaving cream, this stuff just takes too much effort and time to lather and apply. While I enjoy a nice close, clean shave, shave soap just isn't practical for me. I do like the smell and feel of this stuff when I do take the time to use it, but I actually think I get a better, more enjoyable shave using Taylor of Old Bond Street shaving cream.Product Review: Good, but could use some work

Having this as my first shave soap, I at first found it magnificent, blowing away my old habits of canned products. But after a while, I realized that it wasn't as amazing as I thought it was, it would weep away moisture rather quickly, and would require a well soaked, but relatively dry brush in order to load correctly. The lather is thick if you make it right, but it's no über lather, and not as good as some of the smaller company soaps that you can find on their respective sites. Definitely worth the (small amount of) money it costs, but look around if you're looking for a little more oomph.Product Review: package design not so hot...

I bought this as a gift for a friend who shaves with and collects straight razors. I was disappointed when I opened the box to find that the soap comes in a clear plastic, clam shell, type container. It's the kind of thing a serving of pudding should come in. I felt like I'd put a quarter in a gumball machine only I'd spent a lot more than just a quarter.
If I was buying this for myself I wouldn't have minded BUT it would have been nice to know before I bought the product.

I've tried arko and williams shave soap as well as proraso shaving cream and would have to pick this as my favorite. The lather is decent and the smell is outstanding BUT....this stuffs gives me TERRIBLE acne! It's as if I'm a 15 year old boy again. This is why I give it four stars. Otherwise an excellent product. Use with a DE safety razor and a badger brush for a very satisfying and cost effective experience that is easy on the skin.
