Product Reviews of Clearblue Easy Fertility Monitor (Packaging May Vary)Product Review: AGE 38, AND PREGNANT AFTER 3 MONTHS!!!!!! Summary: 5 Stars
I had seen this monitor a while back, but figured I'd try on my own first, since I have very regular cycles and can actually feel when I ovulate every month. But after two months and no luck, I then tried the OTC ovulation/LH surge strips - also without success. I could hear the clock ticking louder and louder, since I'd had a miscarriage with my first pregnancy last year, and I'm already 38... so I FINALLY decided to buy this, since it had received such stellar reviews, with so many women saying they got pregnant within the first several months....(check the reviews on other sites as well). Not much of an optimist (because I was tired of being disappointed every month), especially given my age (DON'T read the statistics regarding age and chances of pregnancy - it'll just depress you), we used it for three months. It was pretty cool, because it gives you a much longer fertility window than just the regular test strips, since it also tells you of the estrogen surge (which occurs before the LH surge). I charted all of this every month (just on a calendar), and this last cycle had FOUR days of "high" fertility (past months only 2 days) followed by two days of "peak" fertility (LH surge) - and I'M I highly doubt this would've happened with the LH strips, because I might've only caught ONE peak day (LH surge), and wouldn't have known of the "high" fertility days leading up to it!! DO YOURSELF A FAVOR - IF YOU REALLY WANT TO GET PREGNANT, AND DON'T HAVE TIME TO WASTE, GET THIS MONITOR!!! You will really appreciate the accuracy of information, and will obtain a longer fertility window - KEY!!! It may seem costly, but imagine the cost of seeing an infertility specialist and undergoing all of the testing (we had just had our first appt several weeks ago, and were ready to start down that road....)!
Product Review: AMAZING...Worked Twice! Summary: 5 Stars
This thing is 2 for 2! After using it for one month I conceived and had a baby boy. When my friend wanted to get pregnant she borrowed it (even though the directions said not to share) and used it for one cycle. She is now in her second trimester.
I feared I wasn't ovulating because I have PCOS, so we sprung for the Clear Blue Easy Fertility Monitor. I'm so glad we did. I followed the directions and used it for just one cycle. Though it says it will do three levels showing the hormone changes for me it just went from low to peak fertility. My OB said that if it moved it all it showed I ovulated. I actually found out I was pregnant at the OB's office trying to adjust my prescription for Metformin (a PCOS medication.) What a joyous day! Because I had recently miscarried I was put on medications to help maintain the pregnancy. Because we had used the monitor it was easy to track when I'd conceived. My irregular periods made this harder to know prior.
I had read reviews before buying it that it wouldn't work for women with PCOS. This was not the case for me. We are so happy with our sweet baby and are so thankful this is the only step we had to take in terms of fertility treatments. It is expensive compared to the disposable sticks, but so much easier to use and causes less anxiety. The month I used it (and conceived) I double checked with some disposable ones and found them very hard to read. If you have irregular periods, are questioning whether you are ovulating, or if you are just ready to get pregnant again (like my friend) this is a sure fire way!
We will absolutely use it again...when we're for sure ready for another one.
Product Review: Accurate & Reliable!! Summary: 5 Stars
This product was amazing. I normally have a very long/irregular cycle (about 37 days). And when my husband and I decided to start TTC, we used the calendar method and other fertility test strips which were not successful. After 5 months, I was getting frustrated and concerned. I bought this product and within 1 cycle we are pregnant! It is a very reliable and accurate tool. It clearly tells you the day of ovulation without any confusion and hard to read strips. It does all the work for you, so you don't have to guess which days are most fertile. I highly recommend investing in this product. I would also recommend using PreSeed along with it. Good luck!
Product Review: Accurate! My physician recommended this and now I know why! Summary: 5 Stars
I am in my thirties and had been on birth control pills for about 16 years, so I had never tried to conceive and was worried it could take a long time to get pregnant. Prior to going on birth control, I did have regular periods, but when you first come off the pill, you don't know what your natural cycles will be like, as your body will take a while to adjust itself. I have another medical issue that I had to stop treating if I was going to try conceive, so I didn't have a lot of time to try to get pregnant; it was important for me to do so within 6 months or less if I was ever going to. My ob/gyn strongly recommended using this because if you time intercourse appropriately using it and hit your best days, it shouldn't take more than 6 cycles to conceive unless you or your partner had other existing fertility issues. From the 1st month of use--and literally just off the last birth control pill pack, I got 5 high and 2 peak days-- I ovulated on day 15 according to the monitor. I was skeptical, but I also did temp charting to verify if the monitor was getting my peak days right and it did. I saw the temp rise just after my 2 CB fertility monitor peak LH surge days, so I know it was accurate. Didn't happen for us that month, but during my second month of use (and only second month off the pill) I got pregnant! My peak days on the monitor were a few days later that month, and again my temperature charting verified day of ovulation after the 2 peak days of LH surge on the monitor. Bottom line: it clearly works at identifying impending ovulation and helped me to get pregnant faster than I probably would have on my own as a result! I would definitely use it again if I try to conceive in the future and would not waste my time taking waking temps. That's why I'm giving it 5 stars.
There are negatives, however. The testing window IS annoying, and as other reviews have mentioned, you can't miss it during a day it asks you to take a test or you will screw up your hormone readings that month. On the positive side, it's a 6 hour window, so when I set it at the beginning of the month, I pressed the button at 6am. That way, I could test as early as 3 am and as late as 9am, allowing me to sleep in if I wanted or be able to pee on it earlier if woke up early to go the bathroom. It will ask you to start testing on day 6 of your cycle, and if you get your peak within 10 days, that's all the testing you'll need that month, so at least you don't have to deal with it everyday. If you are traveling far away from your time zone during your testing days, though, the testing window time is going to be problematic for you. You can reset your time at the start of each month, so consider trying to plan for an acceptable window that might allow for you to use it where you are going.
Also, while a lot of people say it's so easy to use, I wouldn't totally agree. Once I figured it out, it WAS easy to use, but it was not intuitive. Definitely take time to read the manual, but then basically you pee on the stick, insert it in the machine, wait till it's done reading over a few minutes, then remove it, then you see your result that day.
Good luck if you are trying to conceive. Despite its lack of flexibility for testing, it really does work accurately and is worth the money.
Product Review: Amazing Summary: 5 Stars
After 12 years of trying to conceive naturally, my husband and I conceived this past July only to miscarry at 6 weeks. We were devastated. I was referred to the ClearBlue Easy Fertility Monitor by a co-worker - she said "it's a little pricey, but I got pregnant my second month of monitoring". So I went online and researched. I was impressed by what I found so I decided to go ahead and dish out the cash since Dr. visits and possibly fertility treatments were going to cost us much more than a couple hundred dollars.
We waited the Dr. recommended 2 full cycles after our miscarriage and began using the monitor November 5, 2007. I was getting pretty antsy around days 12 & 13 because the monitor hadn't moved off of low fertility. But, come day 14 it jumped to peak fertility (egg & all)! So we made good use of days 14 and 15.
Because I couldn't bring myself to believe that this little gadget could really tell me when to try to conceive, much less read my fertility spot-on the first month, I had talked myself into believing the machine was manufactured to read peak fertility for everyone at standard mid-cycle, but then my body started acting differently. 10 days later, I was experiencing mild nausea.
November 30, day 25 of my cycle and my 32nd birthday, I took a pregancy test. I knew full well it was super-early to be testing and that I may not receive the result I was hoping for. Much to my disbelief, the test read positive! I've since administered 4 more pregnancy tests, all yielding the same result.
I am truly amazed at the accuracy of the ClearBlue Fertility Monitor. It was so well-worth the money and I plan to use it for our second child, after by God's grace, we get through this pregnancy with a healthy baby.
