It's the right shape, so no wasted lens at the top and bottom means lower weight/(reading area) ratio. It's a good enough lens as well. Given that it's the most portable magnifier of this size with a real (non-fresnel) lens that I've come across, a case would've been nice...
I don't use the light, so can't comment on that.
