I bought a button hook. Not quite what I had in mind, but it does the trick. I couldn't button cuffs on my shirts or sometimes down the front because of arthritis or my long fingernails. Now I can button everything and can use it for a couple of other things too (can't remember what now, but I know I thought of other applications for it!).
