Product Reviews of Braun Series 5 (8985) Men's ShaverProduct Review: Big improvement Summary: 4 Stars
After complaining for months that I needed to replace my old Norelco electric shaver, my wife bought me the Braun 8985 as a Father's Day gift. Talk about a big improvement - I find that where the Norelco always irritated the skin on my neck, the Braun is much more gentle. I can press down very firmly and still not get the red irritated spots that I used to get before. The razor feels very comfortable in my hand, and although the cleaning stand is somewhat bulky, I really like being able to just drop the shaver in and have it clean the next time I come back. I would definitely recommend this razor.
Product Review: Braun 360 Summary: 4 Stars
I have now used this razor for 2 weeks. Still battling razor burn, but a great shave. Better than the rotary I was using. Almost as good as a blade. I like the cleaning system too. I really need more experience to give an accurate review.
Product Review: Braun 360 - best so far Summary: 4 Stars
I've tried electric razors off and on over the last two decades and never stuck with it because they just didn't come close enough to a blade .. this one does. My two biggest issues have been maintenance and a close shave; the 360 solves both of these. I would give it 5 stars but I'm saving that for the razor that can shave my neck as close as everywhere else. Of all the razors I've ever tried this is the best so far.
Product Review: Braun 360 Bad Value Summary: 1 Stars
I have now used the "HIghly rated" Braun 360 for 5 weeks and it now takes me much longer to shave for far worse results than all my other razors. This may be the worst one I have ever used and it was 3 times more expensive. Big lesson. Higher cost does not equel higher value!! Save yourselves a lot of waste and stay with a $50 razor.
Product Review: Braun 360 Complete: fragile foil, expensive to run Summary: 1 Stars
I've had a series of Braun shavers. I bought an 8985 about 9 months ago and, although the shave quality is good, I find it unsatisfactory because it's too fragile and expensive to run.
About 2.5 months after I bought it, the foil failed (hole), although I never touch the head with anything but my face or tissue, and always put the cap on the head. I called customer service and was informed that Braun does not sell the foil separately anymore; you have to buy both cutter and foil. To their credit, customer service did offer to send me a 8000FC replacement.
Now, less than 6 months after replacing the foil and cutter, the foil has failed again (hole). It's obvious that the 8000-series foil is much more fragile than the foil on the 6000 and 7000 series shavers.
I do not want to use a product that requires purchase of a new cutter & foil every 3-6 months, at $30-$40 per pop. In spite of the smooth shave it delivers, I'm going to consider other shavers that don't nickel-and-dime the customer.
