Product Reviews of Braun Series 5 (8985) Men's ShaverProduct Review: Best shaver I have ever owned Summary: 5 Stars
The self cleaning is the greatest feature! Just put your razor in the base and press clean, no more pulling the foil off and brushing the blades. I have been using this razor for over a month (change the cleaning refil after a month) now and it is still as fresh as the first day I used it. Nice clean shave and NO irratation at all! I actually look forward to shaving with this razor. The only thing that could use improving on is the trimmer, it is a little small but with a little practice, you'll get the hang of it. Overall I am very happy with it and would not hesitate to recomend it to anyone. I would buy this razor again without a second thought.
Product Review: Best shaver I've owned yet Summary: 5 Stars
I have owned several Philips/Norelco shavers before, plus everyone at one time or another has had a Remington of some sort, and I must say that the Braun 360 Complete is the best shaver that I have owned so far. Here is why: I have hairs on my neck that are very difficult to shave with any razor that I have had previously, because the hair lies fairly close to the skin and grows at an angle. I have always had to go back and retrace all the strokes on my neck with a blade. So why shave with an electric, and then follow up with a blade? It didn't make sense to me, so I thought I'd give the electrics one more shot with a different brand that claimed to trim all those troublesome neck hairs, hence the Braun 360 Complete.
I am glad that I made the choice to stick with an electric. This shaver helps me SAVE TIME by not having to follow up with any blade. The Gillette blades on this shaver shave extremely close with fewer strokes, and having the cleaning solution built into the stand takes the guesswork out of the cleaning process. Amazon also has a good price on the refills for the cleaning solution, so I am not out too much money for the refills. I am definitely glad that I made this purchase, and if this razor lasts as long as is should, and performs at this same level for as long as I own it and replace the blades / foil when needed, I will be a happy shaver.
Product Review: Better Design Summary: 5 Stars
I once asked my husband why he took so darn long cleaning his razor. He explained to me that every time you shave, you make minor cuts to your skin even though you may not be aware of it. This is why cleaning the razor properly everyday is so important - reduces bacteria buildup. So, when I first saw the Braun Syncro, I bought it for him (mainly also for me so we could get ready faster in the mornings). He loved that thing! Well that is until the arm on the cleaning system broke after 5 years of daily use. So, I had to buy a new one... but which one? I opted for this one because it was on sale and the cleaning system didn't require an arm to operate. He loved this one even more! He said he's never had such a smoother shave in his life. In addition, the cleaning solution (he uses the cleaner every day) lasts much longer. He's had it for a month now & the system still says the cleaning solution is "full". So all in all, though it may be a bit pricey & the cost of the solution can add up, it's a wonderful buy if you want to save time & keep things properly clean. If you're in the market for a new razor & you like this design (vs. the round razor types), I think you should splurge for the Braun 360. I personally can't attest to it, but my husband loves it!
Product Review: Better than rotary Summary: 5 Stars
I started shaving with a Remington foil razor years ago. I then switched to a rotary by Noreco almost soley because it squirted lotion out, and after that broke I started using a Gillete Mach 3 blade razor. I've found the Braun 360 to be better than the rotary but not quite as close as the blade. However, the ease of use of the Braun vs a blade more than makes up for it. The cleaning process is a bit loud, but only for a few minutes. I do not clean it after every use, but every 2-3 uses. I've had the unit for about a month, and have plenty of cleaning fluid left.
Product Review: Beware:clean and renew base can be defective Summary: 2 Stars
This Braun Shaver provides a close shave (except on lower neck), is constructed well with a good charging time, and is worth the money. Unfortunately the cleaning base is not. The cleaning base's metal contacts creep back into base and do not provide a secure charge! Even after taking base apart (which is risky, since the clean and renew base is constructed very flimsily and its' shoddy plastic components can easily break) the metal contacts will recede into base and you will not be able to charge or clean shaver without buying a new clean and renew base, which costs about sixty dollars. The shaver is excellent build quality, made in Germany, but the cleaning base was outsourced in Hungary and is very poor quality. I think Braun needs to really put more effort into constructing a quality clean and renew base for it's fine shaver. Otherwise, this shaver is definitely not worth its' expensive price tag.
