Product Review: 8985 vs 7500 series

I've been a Braun user for over a decade using the 7500 Syncro shaver. The 8985 is more quiet and shaves about the same, however, it seems to be more consistent across the whole face. The indication lights for low cleaning solution and which cleaning process is chosen (eco-normal-intensive) is more informative. It has the same difficulty with the lower neck area. Overall it's better and keeps me a loyal Braun customer, but not dramatically.Product Review: A Convert !

Outstanding! I was advised by a dermotologist to began using an electric shaver that could be cleaned properly. Within a week my face had adapted to the Braun, which resulted in a shave as close as a blade. Once done it's a snap to clean...insert in the charger/cleaner and you're done until the next shave. Cordless with a durable travel case. I'll never use a blade again.Product Review: A Lot of Hassle

What the picture doesn't show very clearly is just how large the cleaning base for this shaver is. It's pretty monstrous, larger than a standard box of kleenex, and it's supposed to be kept on the counter, nice and level, and plugged in. But the plug is a poor shape - it sticks out about three inches horizontally from the socket instead of hugging the wall. The cleaning solution will spill if you tilt the base, and the instructions describe how the alcohol solution will slowly evaporate into the air, so it's probably not safe to keep under the counter either. (Also, this prevents you from trying to stretch out the cleaning solution by cleaning only every few days.)
I have no idea how well this shaver works, since it was so loud when I turned it on, that I decided to return it. Much much louder than my old Norelco rotary shaver. Wake-your-girlfriend loud, even behind a closed door.
This contraption convinced me that it was a lot less trouble to just go back to shaving the normal, manly way.

WOW. WAS I SURPRISED. I NEVER THOUGHT I COULD GET SUCH A CLOSE SHAVE WITH AN ELECTRIC SHAVER. THE REAL TEST TO ME WAS THE FACT THAT MY FACE STILL FELT SMOOTH 4-5 HOURS LATER. I WAS NEVER ABLE TO ACHIEVE THAT WITH MY NORELCO.Product Review: A day behind Mach 3

If you want a convenience of the electric shaver, you should definitely look into the Braun line. It is good and solid product, which is very easy to use. It shaves clean and fast. It is the right size and weight. Holds the charge enough for a small trip.
The only side effects are:
- you have to get used to the foil. I've been using mine for more then a month and it still burns the skin after you are done. (opposite to the razor which might hurt a little when you shave, but completely cool afterwords)
- charging/cleaning base is big and somewhat useless. I think simply corded model would be the smarter buy.
- not as good as Gillette Mach 3. With Braun I have to shave every day, period. With Mach 3 razor I can usually skip a day without any problems.
