Product Reviews of Braun Series 1 - 190 Men's Shaver

Product Review: A great shave
Summary: 5 Stars

I'm a consumer report fan and after reading reading their reviews on electric razors, I decided to purchase the highly rated Braun 1775. After two weeks I still can't believe what a great shave this Braun offers, not to mention the great price from Amazon! I was just looking for an inexpensive electric razor to use in between shaving with a disposal and I haven't used my disposal since! Now I'm wondering if I shouldn't purchase the Braun 360!!!!!

Product Review: A great value!

Braun Free Control 1775 Men's Shaver

A great buy! Consumer Reports gave it a Best Buy rating and users were all high on this product. It's thte least expensive model, the lightest shaver and it gives a better shave than the more expensive models. All the reviews were accurate.

Product Review: A pretty great gift for my dad
Summary: 4 Stars

I bought this shaver as a gift for my dad, and from what I can tell, he seems pretty happy with it. The shaver is lightweight and a good shape and size, not at all clunky or awkward to hold like some I've seen. It also holds a charge fairly well (for a few days worth of shaving at the least), and is super-simple to clean.

As for how well it actually shaves: my dad seems pretty happy and says that, generally, he doesn't have to spend too much time shaving or going over areas twice, and he can get a pretty close shave as well. He does, however, have a tougher time with hard-to-get spots (which I suppose is the not-so-great thing about foil shavers), and his hairs are not generally very stubbly or prickly (which are probably harder to get a good shave for). Overall, he's happy, I'm happy, and at this price, there isn't much to mind.

Product Review: A real piece of crap!
Summary: 1 Stars

Are we talking about the same shaver here? The long and short of it is that it simply does NOT shave. I'm not talking about closeness (i.e. it shaves but not closely). I'm talking about 1/4" whiskers all over the face.
I returned the item and I'm astonished that Braun markets this totally inadequate product.Braun 1775 FreeControl Rechargeable, Washable Men's Shaver

Product Review: A tip for foil repairs
Summary: 4 Stars

I finally broke down and got this razor when my Braun 5564, which I'd owned for over 10 years, started scratching up my face due to a tear in the foil. At the time of my purchase, a new 1775 cost about the same amount as two replacement foils for my older model. It was a no-brainer. (And apparently, Braun is pricing their replacement parts in a way to encourage you to chuck your old razor in the garbage.)
So, how's the new razor? Pretty good. It looks like a million bucks - like a phaser from the old "Star Trek" - and gives a pretty smooth shave. One thing I noticed, though, was that the shave didn't seem to last as long as with my 5564, making me suspect that the older, less sexy version actually gave a closer shave than the 1775. Within a few weeks, I started yearning for my old razor again, and wondering ... was there any way to patch it without having to buy a new foil? I tried putting a small piece of duct tape over the tear, which was pretty close to the edge of the foil. This actually worked all right, though the duct tape usually didn't stay on for an entire shaving (whether due to vibration or cheap duct tape, I'm not sure). It didn't irritate my skin, but it didn't seem worth the hassle. But before giving up, I decided to experiment with other tape and adhesives. And as it turns out, a small piece of Band-Aid adhesive, cut to fit snugly over the foil tear, made the foil work as good as new. For real! I just wish I'd thought of this before buying the new razor. Again, it works pretty well, but I'm basically a cheap guy and also I couldn't stand the thought of trashing an old Braun when it was still basically in good operating condition, and had served me well for so long.
I'm not sure if this technique will work if the foil is torn towards the middle, or if it's a large tear. But considering how delicate, and expensive, they are, why not give it a try?
