Product Reviews of Braun SE3170 Silk-épil 3 SoftPerfection Epilator

Product Review: Better
Summary: 4 Stars

I had before the old model, very similar to this one, which was very noisy. This new redesign is less noisy and the adaptor is a lot more lighter and smaller. Some people say that it causes a lot of pain. Maybe at the very begining, but after the third use it is fine. Just do not let the hairs to grow so long if you don't want to get watery eyes (^-^). The only disadvantage is that it didn't come with a pouch, not a big deal though. Overall I think it is a great product.

Product Review: Better ones on the market.
Summary: 2 Stars

Has to be held at a perfect angle before it works underarm. Since your arm curves, this is virtually impossible making epilating take a much longer time. I had a Remington that did not do this. The Remington was ancient and finally burned out. Also, the head is not big enough, making this take even longer. Would not buy again.

Product Review: Better than Epilady
Summary: 4 Stars

I am glad that I opted to replace my epilady with this Braun model. I am fair skinned, my hair is dark grows very quickly so these gadgets are a godsend especially in the summer. Although the Braun is louder than the epilady I had (forgot which model, around the same price) It seems to do a better job at plucking everything off. It is much much sturdier, smaller, and a lot easier to hold/ergonomic. I like the attachment with little spiky rollers although I usually leave it off.

Product Review: Better than I had hoped for!
Summary: 5 Stars

I bought this item in wonderment and I love it! I starting on spots on my legs, at first it hurt but that's because I wasn't using it right, when I figured it out it ended up more tingling. It took a few hours to do my legs, armpits and arms, but only because it was the first time doing it. I upkeep once a week and it takes less than 5 minutes. Worst part was my bikini line, but ultimately it only hurt during (takes a minute, so worth the pain) and not after at all but instead of having to shave every day, the hair doesn't grow back for weeks. When I got goosebumps there was no stubble, it was wonderful. And if you have a tattoo, this is nothing...
08/06/10 UPDATE: LOVE IT STILL. Easy to clean, very little maintenance. Hair grows back way thinner and can go a week without having to touch up (i get a 5 o'clock shadow on my legs if I shave). Spend less time in the shower, no money on razors, which is nice because I save money overall. I still hate doing my bikini line, but I got a numbing cream and that helps, but when I only have to do it once a week and don't get annoying stubble, SO WORTH IT. I was intimidated for years to use a product like this, but if you give it a chance (use it like 6-8 times), you'll love it too. Would recommend for first timers, Shave the area you want to use it on, then the next day use it, and the next day, for about 3-4 days. This helps ease into the product and doesn't remove all the hair at once so you're not in a ton of pain, each hair grows at a different pace, so you'll get a chance to get them all. Then go to once or twice a week after that. Easy Peasy.... ENJOY!

Product Review: Better than Shaving, but still leaves Stubble on me!
Summary: 2 Stars

I purchased this product after reading the Amazon reviews about it. I had never used an epilator, and had never waxed anything on my body but my eyebrows (and that was only one time). Still, I have a relatively high pain threshold and my leg hair is fairly fine, so I didn't think the pain would be a problem for me.

I was pretty much right. I'm a little more sensitive in the knee area than the rest of my legs, and I don't really bother with my thighs since my leg hair there is blonde. I have no problem with pain around my bikini line, but it does hurt quite a lot to do my underarms -- and it pinches my skin there, too, which is not only quite uncomfortable, but has drawn small amounts of blood. It's fine for my legs, though -- the first time I used the product, I didn't use the "beginner's head" that comes with it. I just turned the thing on high and started epilating. It hurt, but it wasn't unbearable (and it has gotten better).

I have had a few ingrown hairs, but I think I can get rid of that problem just by purchasing a loofah and doing some exfoliating in the shower every now and then, so I'm not worried about that.

No, the reason I gave this product 2 stars is that at least for me, the darn thing doesn't actually pluck the hair out by the root most of the time. Oh, it gets much of the hair out by the root (enough for me to feel twinges of minor pain), but it also breaks a lot of hairs off right at the skin. It leaves those hairs too short to pluck with either the epilator or manually with tweezers, and there are too many of them to pluck manually anyway.

The result: my legs constantly feel as though I shaved yesterday -- they look smooth (since my hair is light), but they feel stubbly. If I shaved with a razor, I would at least have one day of smooth legs. This way, it's just a constant stubble feeling, and since much of the hair wasn't removed at the root, I certainly can't go for weeks between use of the product as some reviewers can.

...I prefer this to shaving since my skin is softer now, and since my fiance doesn't really care if my legs are silky-smooth. But really, I think I could get much better results if I waxed or used a chemical product like Nair.
