Product Reviews of Braun Oral-B AdvancePower 400 Toothbrush D4010WProduct Review: Oral-B Battery Toothbrush The Best Summary: 5 Stars
I find it hard to believe that Oral-B's battery operated toothbrush is so difficult to find in stores. The only ones that are available seem to be plug-ins and that's a drag when you have to travel. I bought two of these just to make sure I would always have one for home and one for travel!
Product Review: Some great reasons to buy an electric toothbrush Summary: 5 Stars
Coupled with the Oral-B Flexisoft head, this Braun electric toothbrush is one of the most effective aids to oral hygiene ever developed. My introduction to Oral-B goes back over 27 years to a USAF basic training briefing; a dental technician held up an Oral-B toothbrush with medium bristles and said "this is the toothbrush you need if you want to keep your teeth" or some such statement like that. Well, I haven't lost one yet.
The motorized mechanicals of the toothbrush do most of the work while you guide the oscillating round head around and over your pearly whites. While any electric toothbrush is undeniably pricey when looked at just in dollars and cents, there is value in the fact that the total package actually makes a rather mundane chore a little more fun while actually living up to the claim that it does a better job on your teeth than manual brushing.
Since I've always thought the entire surface area of the toothbrush head was meant to be covered with toothpaste and the size of the head on these is smaller than the average brush, I know I'm using less toothpaste to do the same job. While this is no big deal, the long term economic benefit is plaque under control, healthy gums and a bright smile full of natural teeth; it's kind of hard to deny it works. My dentist has confirmed this upon direct examination.
The main reasons I have found the battery-powered model to be preferable are:
1. It's more portable than a rechargeable. You can travel with it and you don't need to pack the recharger. It comes with a travel cap to protect the brush head.
2. The difference in price between the rechargeable models and the battery powered one is huge; you can buy a lot of batteries. Plus the rechargeable batteries need to be replaced eventually and they are costly.
3. Alkaline batteries in mine last a LONG time and I use it daily.
You can expect vibration because it goes with the territory, but be careful what model brush head you are selecting and watch the pricing. Oral-B uses a kind of color code for the bristles, and the ones that have the colored indicator bristles in a line with the shaft are the Flexisoft model that seems to equate to the medium hardness.
Enjoy life!
Product Review: Too Expensive For The Results Summary: 2 Stars
While this device does save some labor, its price and the additional costs of replacement brushheads and batteries are not justified by the results, which is not different from those of manual toothbrushes.
Product Review: Works great but battery case hard to open/close. Summary: 4 Stars
Works great. After I started using it, my dentist thought I'd been flossing! (I hadn't). But...the battery case is SO hard to open and close that I am buying a different brand next! I have to pry it open. Closing it is the worst--I have to pound the bottom of the toothbrush on the bathroom counter to try to get the battery case latch to snap closed--it was always this hard, from the first time I replaced batteries! This is actually a huge deal-breaker, because I have to remove the batteries to pack it in my luggage so it won't be running while in my checked luggage. That means every time I go on a trip, I have to try to get the darn battery case opened/closed. So when I dropped it in the toilet, ending its useful life for me (it would have lasted much longer otherwise), I decided to buy a different brand. In the end, I had it for 2+ years and replaced the batteries about every 2 months with 2 new AA batteries, and replaced the brush heads about every 4-6 months. A good toothbrush, except for the battery case at the bottom.
