The Braun razor was a Xmas gift from my Mother to my son. He had already had one and it lasted about five years. It was used a lot since he has a heavy beard and he traveled a great deal. He liked it so well, he asked for a new one this Xmas. Seems to be happy with it. Was not particularly happy with the UPS delivery. Had to call Amazon and part of it had to be delivered to his work address because they did not deliver after dark. The Clean & Renew System is a very useful feature, and these refills are required to use it. They work great and have a tolerable smell. I own a Braun Series 7 and use the Clean & Renew feature every other time I shave. It saves fluid and the shaver still keeps clean using this method.
