Product Review: A Downgraded Replacement Head for the Series 5 Shavers

This is the only replacement head set available for the Series 5 shavers with the "Optifoil" screen, even though this set has only the "Smartfoil" screen. That's right, Braun is selling a line of shavers without providing replacements for the advertised heads that it comes with. This Model 51S is the one specified in the Series 5 owner's manual. If you buy a new Series 5 shaver with the Optifoil head, in a year or so when it comes time to replace it, you will have to downgrade the new shaver to this older, inferior head. I have one of those shavers, and if Braun hasn't put out replacement heads of the type it came with by the time I need one, I'll try that Series 7000 replacement head.
I don't know what is happening to Braun. They used to be known for quality. Now they're cheapening things throughout their product line. See my review for the Braun 590cc/550cc shaver.
UPDATE: Please see the Comments under my review for the Braun 590cc/550cc. Optifoil replacement heads may finally be coming to market in the U.S. However, when I contacted the company that is showing the newer head in the picture on their Amazon listing, they replied that they did not have it in stock yet.

The blade replacement didn't really feel like that much of a difference from my old blade that I had on the Braun. I didn't notice any less irritation by changing the blade but I guess it did do a quicker job in cutting the hair to the proximity I wanted. THE ENTIRE BRAUN 8000 LINE IS OUTSTANDING. IT PROVIDES A VERY GOOD SMOOTH SHAVE. I HAVE ONLY TWO PROBLEMS WITH IT. FIRST IS THE $40.00 PRICE FOR THE REPLACEMENT FOIL & CUTTER. SECOND BRAUN CLAIMS THAT THE EXPECTED LIFE OF THE FOIL & CUTTER IS 18 MONTHS. IN MY EXPERIENCE THE FOIL & CUTTER LASTED ONLY 9 MONTHS BEFORE I HAD TO GET A REPLACEMENT. WHAT DID THEY DO? TEST THE SHAVER ON BLOND SMOOTH SKINNED TEENAGERS. ALL IN ALL I AM VERY SATISFIED WITH THE BRAUN'S 8995 MODEL SHAVER FOIL & CUTTER. COMPARED TO WHAT IS CURRENTLY OUT ON THE MARKET IT IS THE BEST. A NEW YORK BRAVO TO BRAUN. JUST TRY TO WORK ON THE ITEMS I MENTIONED: MORE COMPETITIVE PRICING AND IMPROVED QUALITY ON THE FOIL/CUTTER. THANK YOU!
