I purchased this shaver for my father for father's day, but then decided to get him the 8585 model instead. Amazon has refused to accept the return of the product, claiming it can't because the shaver contains flamable material.

I've had this shaver for a few years now and it's still doing a great job... as long as you weigh down the top plug with something. See, after a while the plug will simply not connect with the shaver, meaning you won't be able to recharge it. Meaning you won't be able to shave. Meaning people won't love you anymore and you'll live the rest of your life alone all because of some cheap bit on a $100 shaver. For what it's worth, I use electrical tape.
Otherwise it's rock solid. I'd even go so far as to say it's the best shaver I've ever owned, minus the aforementioned downside.

I don't usually write reviews, but having bought this product and not wanting others to go through what I have, I thought you might want to read this before you buy:
I have been a Norelco user for the past 8-10 years, having seen this product, I thought it was interesting, given the high amount of positive feedback and thought I would give it a try.
Positive:
It is true, that you do get a fresh smelling shave, actually feels like a new shaver everytime you shave, but only after you plug it through the cleaning system.
Negatives:
Very Noisy, Cleaning takes a long time - i tried cleaning it a few times, took at least 15min + and its sound is pretty annoying
Not a good shave: does not get the neck very good, the norelco has a much closer shave
Bulky unit- the recharge stand is huge - takes up a lot of space
Refund policy - Amazon will not let you ship the product back if you want a refund due to shipping of alcohol (the cleaning solution that comes with the kit) Hence, you better be sure you don't want to return it.
Overall, I would stay away from this product and if you really want to buy it, I suggest you go to an offline store to really check out the product, at least you can return it there.

I'm 64 and have used the triple head Norelco for years.My kids thought I needed a new shaver for Christmas. I was due for a change so I suggested the Braun because of their reputation. The Braun seems to do a good job all except for the neck area.I still use the Norelco to clean up what the Braun missed.The instructions say to give the new shaver some time to train the hairs.It's almost 4 months now and I 'm still not happy. The shaver is well made, has a nice trimmer, the self cleaner and the charger unit do a good job.The neck area seems to be my only complaint.Product Review: Wow, nice shaver!!

I don't want to talk about the specs since it's all there.
This is a coool shaver.
It shaves really close.
In most cases one reason you choose manual rather than automatic shaver is because it cut's loose while manual shaver cuts very clean. We use automatic shaver becuase it is convenient regaredless of that loose cut.
But I think this shaver cuts pretty clean compared to other items I have used before.
Don't hesitate.
