Product Reviews of Braun 5270 X'elle Body System EpilatorProduct Review: A REVIEW FOR GUYS Summary: 4 Stars
Allright 1st off I have never tried an epilator before. I have done waxing , shaving and nair.
I have to say this product is the best solution for guys looking to get rid of unwanted hair.
Shaving gave me razor bumps and ingrown hairs and the results lasted only for a day.
Nair was the same thing ( ingrown hairs ).
Waxing is just too mesy and can be kind of hard to do by yourself in certain areas.
This epilator works just fine and the results lasted for a solid week before I had to go back and re epilate.
The special massage head does help to reduce some of the pain and the built in light helps make sure you don`t leave any stray hairs.
My advice for you men looking for a better alternative to shaving or waxing would be this product.
Here is what I myself found usefull :
1 There is pain involved. So if you are a wuss don`t bother. But cmon now if a sexy lil gurl can do this why can`t you ???
2 Wash skin with warm water before epilating to open up your pores making the process a lil easier.
3 This is NOT an electric razor so don`t use it the way you would a razor. SLOW steady strokes making sure you let the machine get all the lil hairs. If not your going to end up with a lot of strays.
4 After you are finished epilating I recommend you use PRINCE REIGNS INGROWN HAIR SERUM on the epilated area.
5 Exfoliate your skin, this can be done easily while in the shower with a luffa make sure you scrub really well to get rid of all the dead skin to help minimize any ingrown hairs.
6 If possible epilate before going to bed. This way you allow your skin to heal while you sleep.
So yeah it does hurt but the end result is worth it. After a while you get used to the pain involved. The best way to describe the pain if your wondering would be that same feeling you get when your leg has fallen asleep and starts to get all the lil needle prickling sensesations.
The most painfull areas I found where around the belly button and around the knee.
Hope this review helps any of you guys wondering if this is for you or not.
Product Review: A bit of pain, some work and save a ton of $$$ vs waxing Summary: 4 Stars
I've had this epilator for 7 months now. It's been a wonderful thing for me, but not without its issues. So here is my synopsis. For reference, I'm a dark haired person with sensitive fair skin who has both been waxed by pros and done it herself for the last 10-15 years... It's a great little gadget that will keep you hairless and smooth - for me, I have to do a 'touch up' approx 1x per week during bare leg season. But my hair grows fast and coarse. I can get away with a longer timeframe during the winter months since my hubbie never seems to notice if my legs are smooth and silky or if I'm a sasquach. ;-)
#1. Does it hurt? Of course it does. You're yanking out hairs by the root. It's probably a bit worse than waxing because you have to go over the same area a few times to catch all the hairs. But if you can stand waxing, you can grit your teeth and stand this. Or take an aspirin/advil/tylenol first to help a bit.
#2 Does it scar? NO. In my opinion, it will definitely cause ingrown hairs, but no actual scarring. If you have an ingrown hair that becomes deeply embedded without being removed, it may leave a dark spot on the surface skin. What has worked well for me is the following:
- Exfoliate both with a scrub wash regularly and use a chemical exfoliator (such as KP duty) once a week or so.
- Follow the product instructions and make sure to use rubbing alcohol to clean the exfoliator parts every time you use it.
- If you need to remove an ingrown hair, use good tweezers which are dipped in rubbing alcohol first.
What else. I like the light. Yes, it is noisy, but the motor works well so far, which is more important to me than quietness. Does it break the hairs? Yes, I'd say it breaks some hair rather than removing it, but not overly so.
Overall it functions as advertised. It takes about an hour for me to do both legs and bikini area properly each go. A professional waxing is probably less painful and more effective/less ingrowns - so if that route is affordable to you, I'd say go for that. But for someone who gets 5 o'clock shadow on her legs after shaving in the morning, and can't standing paying $80+tip for waxing every couple of weeks, this is really a great product. It'll pay for itself the first time you use it!! What do you have to lose? Try it!!!
Product Review: A complete analysis after using this for a month Summary: 3 Stars
I purchased the Braun Silk-epil X'elle at the end of June after reading many of the reviews on Amazon for this product for about 3 weeks. I decided to take the plunge and buy it, since it got such high ratings. Now, had I reviewed this product within the first week of using it, I probably would have rated it 4 stars, but I figured that in the effort of fairness, I would try it out for a full month. I have rated it a total of 3 stars -- here is a breakdown of the positives and negatives I've encountered thus far. Keep in mind that this is the first time I have ever epilated. I am not a waxer and while I occasionally plucked with tweezers, this is the first time I have removed hair by the roots a lot at a time.
The positives:
- The light! It was not a major selling point at the time I purchased it, but it is extremely handy. Even when I have the bathroom lights on, it can be hard to see the hairs on my legs (and I'm brunette) so this came in really handy.
- It's not painful on the legs. Even the bikini line is tolerable, but after trying out my underarms, I know that I'll just stick to my legs.
- It lasts about 1.5 weeks. I LOVE that I don't have to shave every couple of days.
So even though I have a long list of negatives, I probably would still buy this (but just barely) for the price I paid of $58.43. I wish I knew if some of the cheaper epilators would have gotten the job done for less, but it's too late for that now... so here is my list of negatives:
The negatives:
- It is very loud. I have two young kids and it is so loud that I would only consider epilating when they are not sleeping or taking naps.
- The massaging roller clip. To me it is awkward and doesn't prevent any more pain than the efficiency clip.
- The shaver attachment. I am really disappointed with this one. Before I purchased this item, I justified my purchase by thinking that if I couldn't handle epilating, at least I would have an electric shaver which I had been thinking about getting anyway. When I found that epilating my underarms was a little too painful for me, I tried using the shaver attachment. It doesn't shave as quickly or effortlessly like I had hoped. In order to shave my underarms closely, I really had to press the shaver attachment onto the skin in quick, repetitive movements. It is SO much easier to just use a disposable razor for my underarms.
- Ingrown hairs. At first, I didn't see any, but after 1.5 weeks, I started noticing that quite a few hairs were becoming ingrown. When I used to shave with a disposable razor, I never had this problem. In order to get the ingrown hairs out, I have had to break my skin and pluck them out. This then tends to leave a tiny scab that takes about a week to heal. This means that although my legs are mostly hairless, I have little scabs on them that make it look like I was attacked by mosquitos.
- The need to go over the same area more than once. I read the directions and held the epilator as it recommended, but I still find myself going over the same area usually at least twice. This doesn't annoy me too much.
- I wish this was cordless. I knew it was corded, but realized that it would be so much nicer if this could be cordless with a rechargable battery. That would allow the flexibility of shaving wherever, and not necessarily where there is a power outlet.
- I also wish that there was a way of it storing the hair that it pulls out so that I could then clean the unit easily. Instead, the hairs it pulls out end up wherever -- the floor, my legs, or the unit itself.
Product Review: A former "waxer" Summary: 5 Stars
This machine really works!
I have been running to spa's for years to wax my legs regularly. A friend just recently recommended me to try Silk-epil and I thought - why not!?
The price of this epilator is actually cheaper than what I pay for one leg/bikini wax!!! So I tried and it really works!!!
It takes some time to figure out how to reach some parts of the legs but after that everything works just great. I belive this is even less painful than being waxed. And the Epilator pulls up the hair with the root not just pulls it off .
The little light is really great and works so well.
Product Review: A good buy if you're okay with pain Summary: 4 Stars
This is a great product for those of you who hate to shave except that it hurt REALLY bad. The first time is the worst...but it gets better after a few tries. Unfortunately, my leg hair is thick and dark and this epilator always leaves some hair behind. This is worth the money if you're willing to spend some time making your legs perfectly hair free.
