Product Reviews of Braun 5270 Silk-?pil X'elle Body System Epilator

Product Review: Reduces Time Spent in the Shower
Summary: 4 Stars

Thanks to my Braun, I no longer shave in the shower. This results in less wasted water and less drying out of my already dry skin.

The light in this device is great if you are on a mission to pull out each and every visible hair.

There are a couple of things to realize about this method of hair removal:

1) Hairs are always growing in on different cycles. Even if you epilate to the point of silky skin, there will always be a series of new hairs ready to appear, even though the ones you just pulled out will be gone for six weeks.

2) This product cannot work unless the hairs are grown out far enough to be grabbed and pulled out. This is not so much an issue for legs as it is for underarms.

Of course, the Braun is not responsible for either of the above two factors.

Overall I am happy with my Braun, largely because showering no longer seems like a chore in terms of shaving my legs.

Product Review: Removed all my stubborn chin hairs! Smooth skin yeah!
Summary: 5 Stars

This epilator is definitely a keeper. I'm a girl and I have facial hair, especially in the chin area. I used depilatory creams or waxes before I decided to try an epilator. Other epilators gave me razor bumps and had trouble removing some of my facial hair. This one works like a charm and doesn't irritate my skin. I will continue to use my razor for my underarm area but I definitely give this product two thumbs up for facial hair removal.

Product Review: Better Then Shaving or Nair
Summary: 5 Stars

I have very dark body hair that is fine, but plentiful. I usually shave my lower legs and under-arms. I occasionally Nair my upper legs and arms.

Since I am not a waxer, using this device the first few times was definitely "ouchie," but nothing you can't handle. Just switch back and forth 'tween legs and arms. The comfort head definitely helps. Also, the first few times don't worry about getting every single hair, just get used to it. I have not had the guts to try my under-arms yet; I'm sure it will work great, but I'm also sure it will hurt a lot worse! :)

I've used it three times, and I've already switched off the comfort head in order to get smoother results. Make sure your skin is dry before you use the epilator, with no lotion! I have a small scrubbing sponge that I use to exfoliate before and after I use the epilator; I also use lotion afterwards, and I have not had any ingrown hairs (a big problem when I shaved).

My hair is already growing back smoother and slower then with shaving. I also do not have to worry about melting off my skin with Nair anymore.

This thing is pretty loud though, so it's not very discreet!

Product Review: It works, but Ouch!
Summary: 3 Stars

This will pull hait out. Randomly it will do so. That way you have to go over the same spot over and over. OUCH!

Very painfull way to pull hair out. I would rather use electrolysis as it will finish it to the root. This won't kill the folicle. And the pain isn't worth it.

The trimer works great, and the shaver get's things very smooth. Very handy for that. If you don't mind the maintenance it does a good job for the price.

However, if you want to get rid of the hair, you can find home versions of electolysis that are comparable, even better.

Product Review: Not for all skin/hair types
Summary: 3 Stars

I purchased the Silk epilator at the beginning of the summer after reading the rave reviews. It was definitely painful the first time, and I was shocked by the mess and quantity of all the little hairs it pulled out! I figured out that it was best to either sit on a towel or stand in the shower (water off, of course!!!) I guess with shaving I never noticed how much hair was coming off. It is noisy, my husband had to turn up the TV when I tried it in the living room... And it takes a while, um, ages. The light is really helpful in seeing all the hairs, but for me it took multiple passes to get them. Afterwards my legs were red and patchy, so I'd usually use the epilator at night. I really wanted to like this product and use it forever... But unfortunately it's just not compatible with my skin/hair type: sensitive skin and thick, dark hair. After hair removal I used Price Reigns ingrown hair serum, exfoliated with a loofah, everything people had recommended. However, I still got ingrown hairs. Over time, they got worse and worse, and I just kept getting more and more. I loved not having to shave every other day, but I think the turning point came when my husband asked me why my legs were so spotty. After trying it for about 6 months, I have stopped using the epilator and my legs are 'going into remission...' I actually purchased the Conair Hair Removal system (which is supposed to exfoliate away hairs.) Not sure about the hair removal aspect of that product, but it exfoliates well and will help me get all the ingrown hairs out. Sadly, it's back to shaving for me. If the epilator works with your skin/hair type, this would be a great product. But for me, and I'd guess anyone else with sensitive skin and thick hair...good luck trying. It's probably been 2 months now since I stopped using the epilator, my legs are looking better but I still have some deep ingrown hairs, I don't know how they'll ever come out.
