Product Reviews of BlueMD - Acne Blue Light Therapy TreatmentProduct Review: Well... It didn't work for me. Summary: 3 Stars
Before I start, I find it odd that most reviewers that have written a review for this product
have never written a review before although they claim they have used so many other acne treatment products including those hand held lamps over many years...
And they don't even have "Amazon Verified Purchase" mark on their reviews...
Anyway, I purchased this product in August, used it for about 2 months, and returned it because it didn't work for me. But the "didn't work" part is not what I'm trying to share with you.
First of all, the product comes with protective goggles because the light is VERY intense and your eyes need to be protected. It really hurt my eyes even though I added some more protection to the goggles as the light is so intense and you have to put your face (or body part) DIRECTLY under the lamp no more than 6 inches away (The product comes with the manual). After each session, my eyes were red and watery and it was pretty painful.
I couldn't actually cover my forehead because it hurt my eyes way too much.
But, it might just be me as my eyes are a little light sensitive.
Also, it says 30 minutes per day and about 5 times a week if your acne condition is severe. You might think this is not much, but the lamp is actually not that big and your face or body part should be directly under it. You will see what I mean when you get the product. The applied part feels tingled, and gets warm. This means, unless you have a ridiculously small face, you need to do this at least 4 times to cover your entire face (Unless it's just chicks, forehead, or chin).
So thats... 30 minutes X 4 = 2 hours.
Although you can adjust the height of the lamp and the head of the lamp and all that to make it as comfortable as possible, it is not as easy as it sounds.
You have to put your face directly under very intense light that you need protective goggles. And you cannot be more than 6 inches away. You cannot see anything, and you cannot do anything other than listening to music. It is VERY boring. One reviewer said it was relaxing just listening to music and feeling his skin getting better etc etc. Well... He mustve had a very mild acne problem over a very small area if he needed only 1 session... Or he's never used the product.
2 hours a day is a HUGE dedication. Also I didn't like the tingling sensation when I was using the lamp.
And THE LAMP GETS SOOOO RIDICULOUSLY HOT. You actually smell something burning for a few weeks. I asked Trophyskin about it they said it's normal.
Anyway, all I want to say is that using this product can be VERY tedious and requires a huge commitment.
I couldn't find out about any of these because they weren't in the reviews or the description. Everyone was just talking about how well it works and stuff.
Using this product was very very tiring and barely bearable for me.
On top of that, It didn't work for me, so I wasted many many hours on top of the shipping cost.
SO WHY AM I GIVING IT 3 STARS INSTEAD OF 1???
Good point.
It's because Trophyskin was very responsive to me, and when I had a problem with the product (The joint was broken when I got it) they had fedex pick it up and sent a new one right away.
Also, although it says 30 days on amazon, they still refunded after about 50 days for me.
My suggestion: Like I said over and over, using this product is VERY time consuming. Bear in mind that you need at least 4 sessions to cover the entire face and you cannot do ANYTHING other than listening to music. NO YOU CANT SLEEP IF IT ACCIDENTALLY FALLS ON YOUR FACE you gona get some serious burn and even if it doesn't you just can't. The light is way too intense.
But if you can spend some time on this, definitely try it. IT didn't work for me, but it did for other people apparently. If it doesn't work for you, you can always return it.
I'm going to try "NatureBright Clarity Skin Rejuvenation Light" now. It says I need only 15 minutes a day and it looks like one session covers the entire face. I have Amazon prime but I still had to pay $20 for shipping which is ridiculous... hopefully this will work better for me.
Product Review: Works on bacne too! Summary: 5 Stars
As a home inspector, I frequently enter attic spaces and crawlspaces under less than ideal conditions. I noticed a few years ago that my arms and back would break out especially during summer time after encountering old insulation in attic spaces and creosate from fireplaces.
My doctor said it was folliculitis and prescribed an antibotic which helped but only for two weeks. It then came back with a vengance. I then went to a Dermatologist who prescribed antibiotic creams (such as Bactroban). These were even less effective and expensive (a small tube cost $50!). For the next year, I then tried several "home" remedies including tea tree oil, tumeric powder, vitamin suppliments and peroxide creams. I even tried the Zeno device but it only zapped one pimple at a time, you have to hold it on the pimple which is hard when it's on your back and you have to keep buying cartridges for it; very expensive. I purchased the Trophy Skin light 6 months ago and carefully kept the shipping box with every intention of sending it back if it did not work.
I started out using it five days a week, 20 minutes each session, for three weeks. I couldn't believe it! My back and arms cleared up! I now just use it two or three times a week, 10 minutes each session. This product really does work. I think it's designed for facial acne but it really cleared up my back and arms. Well worth the cost considering all the money I spent with the dermatologist. I can now take off my shirt at the beach and not be embarrassed. I have my self-confidence back. This product is really great! Thank you Trophy Skin!
Product Review: finally, FINALLY real help!!! Summary: 5 Stars
I am not a teen...in fact I'm a 53 year old woman, and while having incredibly great skin all my life (even during adolescence) starting going through hell about 4 years ago. It had gotten to the point that I had maybe 2-3 ok days per month, and the rest of the time, a breakout that would usually last 2 days, would fester for 3-4 weeks. I've tried it all, but something about this blue-light therapy rang true to me, so without even trying it at a dermatologists office first, I bought one. Within 1 week I saw a difference. Now, 4 weeks later, and having gone through the crucial week of the month, I can honestly say that this is one of the best purchases I've EVER made here. My only concern is that my cat always wants to snuggle up to me when this is on and I don't have goggles for her and am worried that her eyes might be damaged. I keep shooing her away, but the light doesn't seem to scare her.
I also agree with one of the other reviewers that this is a bit top heavy and easy to knock over...I may try mounting it onto a heavier base as well.
LOVE this product!!!
Product Review: good customer service Summary: 5 Stars
I bought the light about 5 months ago. I used it for 2 weeks and then it broke. After using it for 2 weeks I did think my skin was smoother, but I got some bad pimples along my nose, I think from wearing the goggles. Anyway, once it broke I asked them to send me a new bulb and they did, for free. In the meantime I was out of the country and unable to use the light or see if the new bulb would work. When I came back to the states and tried the new bulb it didn't work. So the company agreed to send me a new device. Thus my 5 stars are based on customer service. So far I haven't had a chance to really use it, so I can't really judge how well it works. Unfortunately, or fortunately, my acne has cleared up since I bought it (thank you benzoyl peroxide and salon facials), but I plan to pass the device on to my sister and see if it works for her. Will update if I see results.
