Product Review: Blue Lizard Sunscream, Baby SPF 30
Summary: 4 Stars

Seems to be a great sunscreen! It's pricey but in my opinion worth it. I applied it to my kids as we were heading to the boat and decided to test some of the reviews I had read about it staying on through hours of swimming and sweating. Worked like a charm! We usually stay out 5-6 hours at a time so I watched for any sign of pinkness in their skin to tell me it had worn off and never saw any. It IS thick going on though and takes a while to get it all rubbed in, which most kids hate. It also leaves their skin with what looks like a dry, chalky film at the end of the day. But for the protection, it's worth the hassle. My 10 yr. old has fair skin and has already had 4 suspicious areas removed from her arms & legs. Her dermatologist told us the only kind of sunscreen that truly protects must have ZINC OXIDE in it, which this does. If you read labels, you won't find any with zinc at Wal-Mart or drug stores.

Product Review: Fair skin in desert SW; don't buy anything less!
Summary: 5 Stars

I live in the desert SW, and have for more than 40 yrs. I've had multiple "pre-cancerous" spots, also known as actinic keratosis, removed by my general practitioner. I was recently referred to a dermatologist to investigate more problem spots. After good news, he spent a LONG time lecturing me about how the FDA has allowed sunscreens in the US to be classified as COSMETICS; they are NOT carefully tested or regulated in the US. In Australia, they ARE, and the ADA - American Dermatological Assocation - recommends this product as one of the absolute best.

Product Review: NOT waterproof for swimmers
Summary: 4 Stars

This is a great, strong sunscreen that does not irritate the skin or cause breakouts. It feels lovely when it goes on- not greasy or chalky at all.

However, it is NOT waterproof/water-resistant at all. I swim two miles a day in the hot Florida sun and have used Blue Lizard "Sports" sunscreen with great results. However, since the "Sports" version has become really hard to find, I decided to try out the "Baby" version of Blue Lizard. Supposedly (according to both the Blue Lizard website and the Amazon description), all Blue Lizard sunscreens are equally as waterproof - 240 minutes in whirlpool-like water. However, this sunscreen came RIGHT off as soon as my daughter and I got into the pool, before we started swimming. We applied to dry skin, as directed, it half hour before we got into the water, and as soon as we got in the water, it just flaked and rinsed off, leaving no residue, and no protection.

Definitely not recommended for swimmers or for kids who are active in the water.
