I practically live outside from the months of April through October. Because I have extremely sensitive skin, this means that I'm usually afflicted with a rash or two throughout the spring, summer and fall seasons. Poison ivy, poison oak, poison sumac, thistle rashes, allergic reactions to bug bites - if you can name it, I've had it. Consequently, I've tried a ton of topical, OTC anti-itch remedies, including but not limited to: Benadryl spray, Calamine lotion, Cortizone 10, Ivy Dry, Caladryl Clear, Aveeno anti-itch lotion, Tea Tree gel, Aloe Vera Supergel, Calagel - Boudreaux's Butt Paste, even!
The Benadryl brand Topical Itch Stopping Spray ranks near the bottom of the list in terms of effectiveness and convenience. It really doesn't help alleviate the itchiness of contact dermatitis rashes or insect bites. Also, the spray is rather sticky and tends to gum up the spray mechanism.
Thus far, the best product I've tried is Ivy Dry, which comes in both a cream and spray form. While I've found that the cream is more effective, the spray also works well. I recommend either over the Benadryl spray. I use each in conjunction with Neosporin (or a similar generic), in order to speed up healing time.
