I had tight knots under my scapula from typing a lot on the computer. I'm a software developer and spend a lot of time on the keyboard. This is the area that gets tight. After laying on this for about 15 minutes, starting from the top of my back and moving it down my spinal column every few minutes, I was able to release the entire muscle, even under the scapula.
