If this is the same as the pad we have, it has an herbal-type scent which turns into a very bad odor when heated. Perhaps we heated it in the microwave for too many seconds, so I would recommend following the heating instructions very carefully. It is cute, and stays warm as long as you would expect for this "novelty" type of heating pad.
